What Art Project Are You Working On Right Now?

Morgoth: Actually, I have a better idea. I think he's a little too cozy hanging from both his arms in our nice climate-controlled prison cell. How about we make him hang from ONE arm outside from, say, a cliff?
It's your home, boss. Do what you want to.

Maitimo, under his breath: Thanks Eru! No more Friday game nights.

Maitimo: Does my face resemble someone who is enjoying himself? 🙂
(Hey, stop playing me!)

Thuringwethil: What?? You mean to say you didn’t enjoy playing piñata? Or The Game of Strife?
Morgoth: I know, right?! And my Manwë impression in Charades is spot-on, if I do say so myself!

*Morgoth gets an idea*

How about we start doing Saturday Night Karaoke, out there on the cliff of Thangorodrim? *starts disco dancing* 🎵I wanna dance with somebody!!🎵

Maitimo: NOOOOOOOOOooooo

It’s as if Manwë himself is in the room with us!

Maitimo: NOOOOOOOOOooooo
*Thuri cackles in glee* Ooh, brilliant, my lord! Count me in!

🎶I believe I can fly! Soarin’ high and touch the sky!🎶 Come on, Lieutenant! Sing along!

Thuringwethil: *narrows her eyes* If I didn’t know better, Lieutenant, I’d almost think it sounds like you don’t enjoy our company…

*her face brightens up again* But I know that’s not true! If you want to sing with Russamól so badly, you two can do a duet of “Spooky Scary Skeletons!” 😁

How it's looking so far.

I'm making some Christmas presents for family out of clay (paper clay, which dries quickly in the air).

Here's the largest one, just over 12 cm tall from its base to the highest wingtip. It's a six-winged cat-like creature I invented for one of my stories. It's not quite finished. I'm waiting for it to be reasonably dry and no longer pliable before I start drawing details on it (like facial features).

I don't use any particular tools, I just smoosh each piece of clay around with my fingers until it's in the right shape, then press it onto the main body of the figure.

I completed it, along with a bunch of other little clay figures:

For Christmas, I made a few fringe-tie fleece blankets as gifts for people. I used to make them more often many years ago, but it had been a while. It felt good to physically create something like these again! 😊 I love being able to personally pick out fabric for a person in mind and spend time meticulously bringing a blanket into being. Not only is it a wonderful way to provide someone with something cozy, lovely, and comforting, but it’s also a very calming activity for me to do.

Maedhros, Fingon, Glorfindel, Celegorm + Curufin. I see the thought process! 🤣
Haha! Could be! 😂 The two matching blankets with the red and blue backings were made as gifts for children selected from an Angel Tree. I didn’t buy the fabric for those ones; as a team effort, someone else chose them, and I turned them into the blankets.

The lavender and yellow honey bee blanket was a special gift for my medical assisting mentor. I specifically chose the pattern and colors for her because of who she is and what she means to me. ☺️

The cardinal one was for a close family friend. I actually had the pattern fabric for years, having gotten it because I really liked the pattern and thought it would make a nice blanket for someone. While making the others above, I decided to finally choose a back color for it as well. When the family friend came to mind, I knew she would be the perfect recipient. 😊

I also have this zebra-print pattern fabric for another blanket, but I don’t have a back color for it yet. Couldn’t quite determine what would compliment it without clashing. (The green’s a little bolder than the lighting shows here.)

This is a quick progress photo that my friend took of my current oil painting:

The lighting isn't the best--it was obviously still wet and very very shiny. It's also a little odd color-wise, because this stage is basically my underpainting--a good deal of that red will have green or grey on top of it, but it needed a red foundation to show through.
But I don't manage to get progress pictures of my paintings very often, so I thought it'd be fun to share!

I'm doing this oil-painting for my AP art portfolio, which has been very fun. This one is on the smaller side because I need to get certain amount of pieces done before the end of the year, and bigger ones take a lot longer. It's 18x24 I think, I'll admit I didn't really look at the canvas pad before starting . . . it was the general right size so I didn't pay attention 😅

I have more time to paint this semester, so I'm hoping to speed through this one in a few weeks.

That's absolutely gorgeous! 😍 I am in awe at your talent -- I mean it's not even done yet and I'm blown away 😅
Random question: did you happen to paint your profile pic as well?

Thank you!! That's very kind.

No, unfortunately! It's a drawing of Maglor by an artist I really like--the credit is in my 'about me'. I wish I was as skilled as them, their work is so lovely.
If you'd like to see some of my other drawings, I do have a sketchbook thread in the The Glittering Caves forum section with some of my Tolkien fanart in it (both old and new).

I've been working very hard to improve my digital art skills. The other day, I copied somebody's digital art of a vampire to better understand the artist's techniques of shading and lineart. I learned lots of things from that: doing lineart with a pencil brush and not a pen, coloring and erasing some of the lineart, doing lineart in colors other than black, keeping shading on the face to a minimum, and using more muted colors overall. I have tried to apply these in a drawing of Maitimo and my OC Aranya.

The second picture just has the sketch layer hidden and some additional shading.

This picture will accompany one of the chapters of my fanfiction, Ill Chances and Strange Fates. If i can get my process fast enough, I'd like to do an illustration for every chapter.
This is such beautiful artwork, I hope to hear more about the fan fiction it inspires!

I am curious as to the application you are using to create this, as I have been looking to ameliorate my digital art skills as well. In my art, I mostly do a mixture of landscapes and characters on water colour or pencil and add colour, that then inspire short stories and songs. I haven’t been able to pick this up in a while but would love to do more; this forum is really inspiring!
