I was watching Fellowship of the Ring and in the Council of Elrond scene, after Gimli tries to destroy the ring, there are 7 shards left around the ring. Could this possibly be a reference to the 7 rings of power given to the dwarves?
Remarkably little in this chapter, it would seem!
There is Elrond's "witnessing" of the Elvish hosts at the War of Wrath, but that is so vague!
He describes the hosts "mustered in Arnor" for the Last Alliance,
and compares them with the (mustered?) hosts of the West where, according to the...
So as I am rereading LOTR [first time since I have studied the first two ages and it makes a very big difference as I am sure many already know] and I am noticing all kinds of new stuff. One was I had always thought Elrond called the council. I think I got this from the movie when denethor says...
Do you think that the decision of the Council of Elrond to entrust the destruction of the ring to a hobbit was a mistake?
What course of action would you have suggested if you were present at the council?

Was this offer by Bilbo only an action of willingness to "save" the world, a duty to finish what had started by him? Or did Bilbo also find an opportunity to get back the Ring?
I was just wondering if anyone knew because he was at Rivendell at the time and was a high elf respected among the noldor so why wouldn't he be invited? If anyone knows if Jackson put glorfindel int he movie please speak
Much has been said of the decisions made at the council of Elrond as to those who were to make up the Fellowship of the Ring. However, there was only TWO persons selected at this Great and Wonderous Event. Frodo to carry the Ring and Sam to accompany him. Basicaly it was nothing more than a...
I just finished reading the council of Elrond, and I found that rather boring. That is the first boring chapter in the Fellowship of the Ring. I was just wondering if anyone else found this kinda boring. I mean it gave a lot of good information, maybe because it was too long had something to...
Alright folks. We were challenged by Courtney to come up with a screenplay for a scene if we didn't like the way PJ did it...So here is the Council of Elrond that I have done. This screenplay is an insertion in place of Jackson’s council, still part of the movie and taking into account Jackson’s...
