I'm sorry if I've opened a similar topic before. But I'm curious about your views on this subject. Please contribute by voting and giving your opinion. Like in bfme 2, did glorfindel fight in the lothlorien attacks and fall of dol guldur during the war of the ring?
In the bfme 2 game, glorfindel takes part in this war with gloin. Are there any written sources in the books that glorfindel is in this war? did glorfindel fight in the battle of dol guldur?
Was Dol Guldur populated by trolls? what sort of creatures resided there at the time of the war of the ring? was Tolkien specific? I don't have my LOTR copy hand.
How exactly did the White Council drive the Necromancer aka Sauron from Dol Guldur?
None of the wizards seem to have the power to face the Dark Lord. Did the Elves and Men gather for a prolonged seige?
They must have had quite an army to force Sauron to flee.
Just how did he manage to do that?
Just how far-fetched or unbelievable does it sound to breach a fortress like Dol Guldur?
Do you think he did it using magic/deception or just an actual disguise? Or a combination of both?
That beard must have been difficult to hide!
These locations are mentioned a million times (specially Angband in the Sil) but are not portrayed in the maps!!!! Angband is said to be somewhere around the north of Hithlum... Or would it be a little more to the east, north of Anfauglith, or to the west, near the sea? What are the Thangorodrim...
In the chapter Lothlorien, in FOTR, Haldir says the following:
I thought the wizards had cleared out Dol Guldur. What is the power in Dol Guldur that has risen? A ringwraith? I can't remember reading any explanation in the appendices of this.
It is said in Unfinished Tales; The Quest of Erebor:
How did Thrain manage to keep the map and the key to Erebor hidden from Sauron?
Later on, this is explained, to an extent:
Why did Sauron let this happen? Isn't it better to strip your enemy of anything important, even if it...
Sauron is not in Dol Guldur at this time, he is in his tower of Barad-dur in Mordor. It also can't be the Nazgul, because they are ever out on the search for Frodo and the Ring, and if not they are in Mordor awaiting orders from Sauron. So does anyone have any idea who might be the captain in...
At the end of the Silmarillion in the rings of power and the third age it talks about Gandalf in Dol Guldur it says "he discovers the truth of his fears, and escaped"
I was just wondering if gandalf actually came in contact with sauron or he just went there stealth like?
