i was wondering about what the dwarves do during the quest to bring the ring to mount doom.
for instance, do the dwarves just defend erebor and wait for the enemy to come?
i am a bit confused.
I seem to be drawing a lot of dwarves lately. Here's a picture of the Dwarves of Belegost at the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, when Azaghal the chieftain stabs Glaurung in the chest.

Not only Galadriel was announced on the 7th!
According to theonering.net Beorn, Balin and others have been announced. Why is the IMDB so slow to update things now? In order for people to subscribe to premium, is the premium updated faster?
Well anyway, here's a link to it all.
Just now...
I'm a new comer to the world of RPG's so I not sure exactly what required here but I'd like to throw out this idea and see what others think of it.
I was thinking the other day that we know how Mankind first met Elven-kind (or at least how they met the Noldor) but I dont recall Tolkien ever...
I have always wondered how dwarves and orcs manage to attain food when dwelling in an underground city for years. In Christopher Paolinis' Eragon the dwarves had fields of wheat above their underground habitations.
Has anyone got any idea about it?
Being who I am, I really enjoyed this entry into the 26th annual Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, honoring some of the worst sentences in fiction writing:
"'Toads of glory, slugs of joy,' sang Groin the dwarf as he trotted jovially down the path before a great dragon ate him because the author...
Hi, welcome to my first thread. Hope you enjoy it.
I have always wondered about how the Dwarves maintained themselves apart from metal-working and mining; after all they had to eat.
There are no references that I am aware of of Dwarves growing their own food. They don't seem to be all that...
I posted this on a topic in 'The Hobbit section, but figured not many folks would see it.
I thought it would spark more interest under it's own title.......
Far to the East is another mountain range called The Red Mountains, from whence the Elves came.
The Seven fathers of the Dwarves...
I have noticed during my recent read of The Hobbit a comment made by Thorin regarding the location of his Dwarven brothers near the Lonely-Mountain. I had always assumed that the only Dwarves that were near was Dain in the Iron-Mountains; but ...
This seems to indicate that there are Dwarves...
I was wondering if any one knows how Oin and Gloin from The Hobbit should be pronounced. My daughter says it's Oh-in and Gloh-in. I say its Oyn and Gloyn.
I read somewere (not by Tolkien) that the Man and Dwarf Rings made the bearer invisible. That made me raise my eyebrows. What do you guy think? Any quote?
As far as I can recall, all the dwarves we meet throughout the books are mountain dwellers.
Why the need to add 'of the mountain-race', rather than simply have 'dwarf though he was'?
Can you easily imagine some 'divisions' of dwarves living in lowlands or even forests, rather than mountains?
Just one thing that ocurred to me... there were seven dwarves in Snow White and seven dwarves that had magical rings in Tolkien's work. Any relation do you think?
I'm just so bored...
Ok so we know that Sauron tried to take back all the rings he could, and managed to get hold of the Nine. We also know that he had some (at least three) of the seven, but that the rest might all have been lost.
What I am wondering is what exactly was he doing with these rings that he took...
In the first chapters of The Hobbit it seems to me that the Dwarves, even Thorin, have no vigilance whatsoever when it comes to battles. They are all easily captured by the three trolls whereas there were 13 of them, and they are also very easily captured by goblins, and every time it's up to...
I can't remember if I've seen this posted here before or not. It sounds vaguely familiar. So if it has, a mod can delete the thread.
Anyway, I saw this on TORN, and thought the readers here (who don't read TORN) might like it. This site is a translation of the Dwarvish runes in Moria...
Tolkien does not mention female dwarves in the lord of the rings at all, and yet Peter jackson does in the Two Towers film. Why is that? What is the job and life of female dwarves in Middle Earth?
It says dwarfs are taller than hobbits but shorter than Men. Well what if a hobbit and man mated? Dwarf?
Dwarves lived in mountains kind of like hobbits lived in holes in the hills.
Hobbits had genes giving them a lot of hair on feet, and men had genetics giving beards.
Dwarfs get...
