glaurung

This drawing I had done about two years ago has resurfaced and I felt like it would be nice to share, this is Túrin in his dragon-helm wielding his ever famous black sword to smite the beast.

I just came across the part were it says that there were seven tongues of fire in Glaurungs gob, are they real tongues, or just flames, and if so, why seven? Its on page 236 of The Children Of Hurin, if you want to check before answering.

Is Glaurung ever specifically stated to be stronger than say, the Balrogs? I'm writing a paper, and wondering why Morgoth would send Glaurung specifically to Nargothrond when he could have sent any number of Balrogs, or even Sauron, who I believe was at Angband at the time. any insight would be...

Morgoth boasts that he is in control of Turin's fate, and that his curse is on all the children of Hurin. Did he know he would lose Glaurung? Did the loss of Glaurung seem worthwhile? And was he, from his point of view - i.e. militarily, right?

who wins? I'm saying Ancalagon. (Man, I haven't posted in a WHILE)

Im inferring this because when he looks in Neinor's eyes he suddenly knows who she is and of what family she is from so that must mean he is telepathic right?

I know Ancalagon is the greatest winged dragon, but Glaurung is the grandaddy of em all. Besides he has spells and stuff so I think Glaurung would win. What do you guys think?
