Let's say the Ring simply tumbled into the fire below during the fight between Gollum and Frodo. Then would Gollum have sailed with the other ring bearers? Would he have been too heart-broken to survive the destruction of his precious?
During the War of the Ring, neither Lindon nor the Grey Havens came under any kind of attack. Why was this? Did Tolkien just forget, not want to overuse them or was it Sauron's plan for the future?

I was thinking that the boat from the Grey Havens went to Valinor. Because the Elves knew how to get there following the straight road. I think Frodo might have went to the over the Great sea (Belegaer) into the city Alqualonde in Valinor. This is just a theory, it seems the most feasible of all...

I just finished reading the lors of the rings and I had a question:
what are the grey heavens and what to they mean to sail to the West? Does it mean the elves, Frodo and Bilbo went to paradise or something?
