A silly poem from a long time ago, when TTT was still in theaters. Haldir's feelings toward Peter Jackson about killing him off at Helms Deep.
(if you've gone to fanfiction.net you might have run across this on my account. I'm the same halavana here as there.)
Haldir's Lament
Here I sit on my...
I've been part of an online writing group recently and someone set us the task of taking a minor character from Lord of the Rings and trying to put together a 1000 word story that work by itself but would stay in keeping with the main story. I hope you enjoy it and any comments welcome :)...
What do they have in common? They are names of elves in Lord of the Rings, that were also names of men in the First Age.
It seems more usual that men will be named after elves, than vice versa. And neither Galdor nor Haldir were particularly outstanding men, to the degree that a young...
I was just thinking about when Haldir is killed by an Uru-khai at the battle of Helms Deep and how this really strange mystical type of music plays while he sees everything in slow motion. Is that what happens when elves die, or is that just something PJ put in on his own?
I was halfway through the Fellowship of the Ring when it came out on film, and I therefore rushed my reading of the other books, so as not to be caught out again.
Therefore, upon seeing TTT, I could not remember, Haldir coming to help at Helms Deep. So I re-read the series of books, (at a more...
;) Is it True that Gimili said to Haldir who said: "Our kind has not had dealings with the Dwarves since......." Gimili replied: "And do you know what a dwarf would say to that?!" "Ishkhaqwi ai prep durugnul!" Which is translated: "I spit upon your grave!"???
How come they did not translate it...
"The Hunt for the Ring" (in Unfinished Tales) gives a detailed account of Aragorn's journey through the Vale of Anduin with Gollum in tow in 3017. Having crossed the River to avoid Sauron's spies, he at one point passes through the woods of Lorien with his prisoner.
Yet in Lord of the Rings...
I think they are great despite the fact that they die. Haldir is the best fighting elf at Helm's Deep, he is the only one seen to be actually killing any Uruk-Hai (except Legolas) while Boromir is unstoppable i mean come on THREE arrows! almost four! If that isn't amazing i don't know what is.
In the Silmarillion, both Glorfindel and Haldir die. Glorfindel dies, I believe, after his battle with the balrog. Haldir dies in battle. However, both appear in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. How is this possible? I can think of two possibilities.
1) The Valar...
Okay. Here's what I don't get. All the hoopla about cutting out Glorfindel was because he was a minor character and wasn't in the rest of it anyway, plus they needed to introduce Arwen.
Why did they beef up Haldir's role? He virtually did squat (or at least as much as Gildor and Glorfindel)...
Why did they make haldir so camp in the extended version..as if the bit where he says:
"the dwarf breathes so loudly we could have shot him in the dark"
in the extended version we are forced to endure more of him camping it up big time in lothlorien.
It's almost like cary on - lord of...
