Some of you may know about my solo fanfiction, "Ill Chances and Strange Fates." It is primarily a fic focusing on Maedhros and my OC Aranya and how they fell in love. (And I will start posting it on here as soon as I get a few chapters edited.) But anyway, I wanted to have some illustrations to...
Hi! I'm looking for editions of The Hobbit and the Rings trilogy that:
-- preferably have no illustrations at all, including on the cover,
-- or (2nd choice) have only Tolkien's original line drawings &/or his maps.
Illustrations on the dust jackets would be okay, since I could remove...

New edition of the Hobbit coming out!
CL
Mainly known for Moomins comic strips and author of it. But she also illustrated other works including The Hobbit.
I read "according to reddit, so source is questionable" but that reason Gollum looks like this, is because the first edition didnt have (small slimy creature) reference.
But...
I ran across a website that has scans of what appears to be all of the illustrations from a 1993 Russian edition of Lord of the Rings. If you have only seen illustrations like those by Alan Lee, John Howe and the like, you might find these interesting. Here is the link . . ...

They appear to be heavily influenced by 19th century caricature styles, particularly Grandville:
I had the opportunity to have a quick look at the epub version of this new (published Oct 2019) art book, so here I share some first impressions with those who feel an interest in such new publications.
The official synopsis (I'm quoting) reads as follows:
Tolkien's works have inspired artists...

Hi guys, I'm Robin, a longtime LOTR fan and a guy who wanted to give poetry a shot. Instead of composing stuff off my head I decided to rewrite a story that meant a lot to me, which is the amazing and deep plot of the LOTR movies.
Anyways so attached below are a few shots from my poem, and to...
I found this page a while ago. These are the scans of all the illustrations of the 1976 translation of The Hobbit to Russian, second edition, 1989. A nice translation - I have it at home.

The illustrations are by Mikhail Belomlinsky. A few are...
Jemima Caitlin, illustrator for the latest edition of The Hobbit, was guest speaker at a seminar I attended.
Her first encounter with The Hobbit's publishers came when she chose to illustrate Roverandom for her degree project (using a technique involving ink on glass, with the illustration...
Unfinished Tales - Does an illustrated version exist?
Hello all, after some time I revisited Tolkiens work and I have fallen in love with it the same way it happened all those years ago. No I recently finished The Children of Hûrin (illustrated by Alan Lee) and the Silmarillion (ill. Ted...
In a search of the Bodleian Library in Oxford for material to mark the 75th anniversary of Tolkien's second book, previously unknown illustrations of The Hobbit were unearthed. These will be published next week.
News article here. I will buy a copy of The Independent today as I believe they...
JRR Tolkien translated Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Does anybody know if a replica of the Cotton Manuscript (British Museum (Library?) has been printed including the original illustrations please?
Many thanks
Ric
Hi, all. I'm going to attempt to post a few of my Tolkien illustrations here. Bear with me if it doesn't work!

I recently stumbled upon a VERY OLD copy of The Hobbit and was surprised to find the book illustrated by Tolkien himself.
I knew that he's drawn the originals of all the maps and such, but then Pauline Baynes patched all that up...I didn't know Tolkien had any artsy talent.
Recently bought this book and began flipping through in search of paintings new to me. There were enough new pictures that I stopped looking and decided to save some for surprises as I read through the book.
It's a beautiful book, and my first hardcover Sil. :D
Is anyone else happy with...
