  1. I built an interactive map of Middle-Earth, hope you like it!

Hello everyone! My name is Orlando, aka Orlyman, a long-time Tolkien fan. I wanted to share something I've been quietly building for a while, and I think this might be a good community to appreciate it (and probably/hopefully have a lot to say about it). I found it really interesting putting...
  2. Are the empty spaces on the maps empty i.e. uninhabited?

Specifically this question was prompted by the reference to white bread on the meal table of Tom Bombadil and Goldberry. I thought where did the flour come from? There could be a cereal field beyond their kitchen garden but then the idea of Tom or Goldberry hand grinding the corn doesn't seem to...
  3. Drawing My Map of Beleriand and the Lands of the North

Here are some photos of my newest map addition. I made it all by tracing in some places and freehand sketching most. Enjoy! If you want any closer up photos-- just ask!

The Second and the Third Map of The Lord of the Rings

Does anybody know where I can find an image of J.R.R. Tolkien's Second Map of The Lord of the Rings (not the redrawing of the Second Map in The War of the Ring in HOME, but a photo or scan of it), preferable on the internet and for free? I managed to find an image of The First Map of The Lord of...
  5. Some Tolkien Names for Common Rooms?

So, I'm working on a recreation of my apartment into a tolkien-style map, but I'm having trouble naming the different rooms. If anybody has suggestions for tolkieny names for common rooms like kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room, dining room, study, etc I would LOVE to hear them. I want them...
  6. Maps thread

I was wondering if there's any consensus on which maps over middle earth are the best. Since I only have pocket editions of the books and besides the small size the maps included were messy and lacking, I would like to reference another map at times. If there's already a thread on the subject I...
  7. "Sixth Age & Seventh Age" (MAPS)

Here are different "Sixth Age" (now Seventh Age) Maps. What are your thoughts about their positioning, are they accurate? MAP 1 MAP 2 MAP 3 Notable events of the Sixth Age 2340 BC - The Great Flood. 2340 BC - Irish legend of Tuatha-de-Danaan and Tuan Mac Cairill the oldest man in...

Maps by Brian Sibley and John Howe

Does anyone else have those three maps by Brian Sibley (text) and John Howe (illustrations)? They're from 1994 (Third Age Middle-earth), 1995 (The Hobbit) and 1999 (Beleriand, so First-Age Silmarillion). All three are poster-sized foldouts in a common small-book-sized cover including booklets...

  12. Hidden Map Message

I have found Middle Earth. While research Amerindian Land Ownership, I was rifling through reports of early Spanish and French attempts to invade/explore the Western Territories of North America, and found this quote: "...spreading the alarm throughout the country by means of great fires...

Hi :) Do you know why on the map of Middle Earth, some propers nouns are translate into english . Ex : the Lonely Mountain. And others not ? Ex : Ithilien. How Tolkien decided what name would have an english translate on his map, and others not ?

    The real map of Arda.

Does any one know if Tolkein ever published a map of Arda? Or has he left it to our imagination?
  16. Why Can't 🧙Gandalf Read Thrór's Map?

Why can't Gandalf read Thrór's Map himself? Elrond is able to, but I thought Gandalf is supposed to basically have a mastery of the languages of Middle-Earth. I thought I've seen that Maiar have some sort of intuitive ability to understand the created languages, especially Gandalf as one of the...

    Original LOTR Maps

Hello the Forum. Appreciate that this is a bit of an odd topic to start. I have two copies of the original hardbacks, one impressions from the first edition, and the other from the second edition. One rarely if ever gets to see the maps. What are members' thoughts on removing the original...
  18. Names of places in Sindarin (for a map of Divcibare)

Good day to you all. I am Milan Tair and I am new to Sindarin (actually, I've tried learning it some 4 years ago, but without luck). --------------------- Now I'm kind of giving it a try again, and the first thing that I'm trying to do is make a map of a place called Divčibare (on...
  19. Can anyone identify this map?

I've been finding bits and pieces of this map online: (Screenshot of a small portion) Can anyone give me more info about this map? It appears to be designed for a MERP scenario. From what I've seen, they are scanned parts of a much larger printed map. This thing looks...

How does the new cloth-hardcover map enhance the reading experience?

In the UK, Harper Collins has just re-released this map. It's now published in a beautiful cloth-hardcover which is nicer than the original UK paperbacks. They also plan to publish the other maps separately in cloth-hardcovers like this one. I much prefer these to the set available in the US...
