Hello! I am working on customizing a door. The idea is to have a border of characters (I have space for 51) I am thinking Cirth, but maybe Tengwar.
What I am looking for is a translation of:
into Quenya ideally, and/or Sindarin (just for fun)
and then transcribed into Cirth and carved by me...
For me it would have to be this one. The harp, the singer's voice and honestly the following imagery of the New Line Cinemas regretfully unused content for Peter Jacksson's trilogy does not hurt either.
I wrote this poem a few years ago.
Tree boughs were turning bare, the North Wind Was Biting,
As Old Tom Bombadil a Candle was a-lighting.
He placed a feather in his hat, he said farewell to Goldberry,
Tom stepped out of his door, red and cold and merry.
As the winds began to moan, His candle...
Hello all!
Long time no see :)
I am currently writing a course paper about Tolkien. The topic is "Wind as an image-making element in J.R.R. Tolkien's poetry".
Could you please suggest me some Tolkien's poems in which wind is mentioned? I really need as many of them as possible. ;)
Thanks a lot!
This immediately reminded me of Tolkien:

Breakfast
We ate our breakfast lying on our backs,
Because the shells were screeching overhead.
I bet a rasher to a loaf of bread
That Hull United would beat Halifax
When Jimmy...
Hi, this is my first post. I don't know if it's generally accepted to post your own work here, but I think it is sooo..
here's my poem, a short 3 stanza thingy about Eärendil's first trip into the sky:
I wander through the seas of sky
As no-one before me has done
Arien sleeps, Isil's rays climb...
Oh people, do you say that the Desert is dead
That nothing stirs there on it's dry, sandy bed?
How can you say that! The Desert is alive as can be
The lizards under bushes breath just as well as you or me.
The snakes in the hollow also have hearts that beat
The gazelles on the dune crest are...
So, I've set myself a task for a chapter I'm working on. I need to include a song sung by the elves. In order to make this, however, I need to know what the patterns are for elven songs of a religious nature, or of a more abstract meditational nature, like Galadriel's songs.
(It may be I'm not...
From the linked page (edited and excerpted):
"HarperCollins has announced today that The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien will be published this September...
The Collected Poem will be a three-volume boxed set. The Amazon UK description gives its extent as 1,368 pages, which is close to the...
Since this has been highly requested by you guys, here's some of my (very old) LotR-related artworks (please excuse the quality of the scans):
Frodo [as portrayed by Elijah Wood, roughly from 2001]
Arwen [as portrayed by Liv Tyler, roughly from 2002]
A freehand sketch of Arwen [even...
... Above coincidence of language and ideas?
I couldn't find anything in Tolkien's letters.
(Note this is a question not a statement)
UNWELCOME (a poem about unwelcome death)
by: Mary Elizabeth Coleridge (1861-1907)
We were young, we were merry, we were very very wise,
And the door stood...
I know there are newer versions and multiple translations, but this is the only version I can find with videos of people actually pronouncing it. I want to learn to pronounce it as well as get a tattoo of this poem. Please let me know what you think, as well as if you know of better versions...
Here is a poem I wrote recently,
BREATHLESS
"Breathless,
When
I
Saw
You,
Hopeless,
When,
I
Found
Me,
Hope
Is
Small
Like
A
Single
Petal
Upon
The
Green
A fire
That
Hath
The spirits of
Saints
A Cross
I bear
As a
Banner,

LotR, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, etc, have many amazing poems! What's your favourite poem?
My favourite LotR poem is this one:
There is an inn, a merry old inn
Beneath an old grey hill
And there they brew a beer so brown that the Man in the Moon himself came down
One night to drink his...
I have read my Tolkien... but am unable to say if this poem from 1915 ever made it into The Hobbit or LOTR...
Can anyone of you help me out?
This is what I found on the "Tolkien Gateway"

I went into The Annotated Hobbit but not into LOTR I guess...
Hi guys, I'm Robin, a longtime LOTR fan and a guy who wanted to give poetry a shot. Instead of composing stuff off my head I decided to rewrite a story that meant a lot to me, which is the amazing and deep plot of the LOTR movies.
Anyways so attached below are a few shots from my poem, and to...
A little while back I stumbled across a soundcloud user who recorded a bunch of Tolkien's poems and I thought I'd share it with you lot.
In case this has already been posted elsewhere before (which is reasonably likely) I apologise.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

Wind sweeps over the red crown of Amon Rûdh,
Rain pelts down in the brown woods of the outlaws;
Loud roar the tears in the rocky floods of Teiglin.
That man beneath the tall helm and the warlike mask,
How shall we sing for you the wintry songs of grief?
Enwrapped in the past, distant in dark...
