Hi all,
I haven't read the Book(s) of Lost Tales yet, but I came across the poem 'The Little House of Lost Play' from BOLT 1 online the other day. It captivated me and I really like it as a poem, but I'm not sure I wholly understand what it means.
Here's a link to it, as posting it exceeds...
I love Gandalf above all else that Tolkien created, for many reasons, and a short while ago I wrote a quick little poem that I quite liked so I thought I would share it with you all. Here it is.
In times like these,
when the air is heavy
and the sky grey;
when the Sun is blotted out
by black...
It was a couple of years ago, a very talented poet named Pontifex used to come here (don't see him anymore) and he and I played a game. It was a poetic round robin love story about a mermaid and a faun. I've edited it a bit just to keep the rhythm and I want to share it with everyone. Enjoy! :D...
Not Mine, but very amusing...thought I'd share it.
A Poem by an African...
Nominated as Best Poem of 2005
When I born, I Black
When I grow up, I Black
When I go in sun, I Black
When I scared, I Black
When I cold, I Black
When I sick, I Black
When I ill, I Black
When I die, I still Black...
Okay...I didn't write this, and I dunno who did, but my friend sent it to me and it was too good not to share.
My first time
The sky was dark
The moon was high
All alone
Just her and I
Her hair so soft
Her eyes so blue
I knew just what to do
Her skin so soft
Her legs so fine
I ran...
Hello,
I need you. I am not an expert in English poetry? I know better French prosody.
Could you explain to me the rythm used in the riddles (chapter 5) ?
Does Tolkien use iamb, trochee, spondee, dactyl and anapest ?
Thanks

This is sort of an alternate on the usual theme of poetry threads. I'm going to post five of my poems and ask you which you like best in a POLL. . .I love polls. . .
I accidentally posted this a first time without a poll. I need to have that one deleted. . .blush. . .
Poem One
First Love...
In the Special Edition Commentary, Philippa Boyens said that the song when Boromir died, was actually Faramir's Poem. It said:" I do not love the sword for its brightness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, but for the land it defends." Or something like that. Does anyone know where I can find...
There are many awe-inspiring poems in the first Book of Lost Tales. Which of them do you like most (which might be a difficult decision)?
The Trees of Kortirion is just so incredible.. It is definately my favourite poem of all these.
But I just read A Song of Aryador, and I must say it...
- Author Unkown?
Who is generally accepted as the author of this ditty or credited with writing it? (no, I'm not talking about JRRT himself - who in the book?)
Thanks,

Hi! I write poems in Quenya. I love doing this and not telling what they mean, so it can put some personal thought and likes in them. I did not do this for the ones I will show you, and I will tell you the translations to most of them. Please post your different languaged poems here, and...
Poems and Songs of ME...
so, whats everybody's favorite poem/song from ME? Mine are The Fall of Gil-galad (sam's version anyway) and the Lay of Leithien from 'The Lays of Beleriand' Hope y'all post!
One of the (many) things that I like about LOTR is all the wonderful poetry and verses that are scattered throughout the book.. I especially like the way the style of each poem is different according to the race of the people who wrote it.
But of all the verses in the book, I would have to...
Hi everyone! Just wondering which of Tolkien's poems you people like best. Personally my favourite is Galadriel's song of Eldamar -
'I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold...'
Any thoughts?
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One ring to bring...
