After the hobbits read the letter from Gandalf, they ask why Strider didn't tell them he was Gandalf's friend. His answer interests me.

Very little is mentioned by Tolkien of Aragorn's fellow "Rangers of the North" except that they help him in keeping at bay the forces of the Enemy from Bree and the other towns as well as the Shire. A number of them join him as he rides back to Helm's Deep with Theoden after the confrontation...
I might be mistaken, but you'd think with all the mischif about and the looking for the One Ring, Bilbo and Co. would have run into a Ranger. Did they ever see or find one?
