Who would you want to fight alongside in Rohan's army and please say why, for each person's name.

Merry is still missin' Pippin and now Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli have gone with the mysterious Grey Company of Dunedain Rangers along the even more mysterious Paths of the Dead which no one wants to talk about. The thoughts of a "quiet room by a fire" in the Shire seem attractive to him now. In...

The official trailer for War of the Rohirrim just dropped! CL

This is a chapter with plenty of content and action. We meet for the first time some of the people of Rohan, in this case a cavalry force charged with the care of the eastern section of East Emnet. There are some beautiful descriptions of scenery and setting starting with the wonderful first...

I see that Gandalf recommended that he go to Rivendale, but that seems out of the way if he wants to ultimately go to Mordor. The much quicker route, and, it would seem, as far as Gandalf knew, safer route, would have been to go toward Longbottom and the Gap of Rohan and ultimately cross the...

The free peoples ( especially Rohan and Gondor ) usually unite too face the forces of darkness in times of strife, but what would happen if these two countries of men waged war on each other's borders.there is a major battle on the border between the eastfoldand Anorien who wins

What battles did Aragorn take part in when he served Thengel and Ecthelion under the pseudonym Thorongil? Are there any names for the wars Aragorn participated in in his early life, apart from his attack on the Umbar fleet?

If you thought that Riders of Rohan are peasants on horses, you can forget that... they are, in fact, highly professional and standardized military, based mostly on Anglo-Saxon fyrd (which also influences military of Gondor, though that one is based more on Byzantine themata)...

I was watching ROTK the other day and during the scene of the council between Gandalf and Theodon in the main hall at Edoras after Pippin looked in the palantir I saw in the background a dog walk by. I didn't even know there were dogs in LOTR. Has anyone else seen this dog? Are there cats and...

I think it says in the Silmarillion "Of the Coming of Men into the West" that Bereg (son of Beregund of Beor I think?) led a host of men, who tired of and disliked the power of the Elves in Beleriand, into Eriador never to be seen again. Coudl these be the men who would later come to found Bree...

Please No Spoilers! This thread is for speculation. I'm sure many have seen the trailer of ROTK. Similar film was shown on the ABC program last night, in which you can see Elrond giving the sword Andúril to Aragorn in what appears to be a Rohan tent. Certainly this is a major divergence of...

It is well documented that Tolkien was interested in the Myths of the Norse people especially Brumwolf. I am interested in Celtic Mythology, and thought that even though it is not documented maybe Tolkien got the word Rohan from Celtic mythology, the reason i suggest this is, the Celtic Goddess...

Even though Gondor is larger then Rohan and they had suffered serious depopulations (if thats even a word) and lost alot of people throughout the third age including the kin-strife, wars with easterlings and the plague they were still the most powerful regoin of men in middle-earth. But were...

Ok this thread is for the discussion of PJ's Eowyn of Rohan as portrayed by the lovely Miranda Otto. What did you think of her? Did you like her? Did you think that she was well interpreted from the book? I would love to hear everyone's opinions. I personally did enjoy Eowyn. She was lovely...

Which three? Merry went with the Riders of Rohan. But what about the other two that he loves? All the Dunedain went with him....
