What did Sauron think was happening? What did he know? We’re always focused on the protagonists, the heroes, the Good Guys. Tolkien (and Lewis, too, I imagine) spent a lot of time thinking about the Bad Guys and what they knew, what they surmised, what they believed. We know the Good Guys...
A pivotal event in the LotR story is when Sauron learnt of the finding of the Ring. This event triggered every important action from there: the requirement to the Dwarves for information on Bilbo Baggins, the initial attack of Osgiliath, the search quest of the Nazgûl, and what have you.
I...
Has anyone ever though about the history between Sauron and Saruman before the events at the end of the Third Age.
As Mairon and Curumo respectively, they were both affiliated with the Valar Aule. As such, surely they must have known each other in their youth? Might this have played a part in...
As it's Christmas I hope forum members won't mind if I ask a stupid question.
If Sauron was a disembodied lidless eye then how could he put the Ring on if he captured it?
Frodo Baggins convicted of trespass and trespass to chattel and terrorist destruction to property by prosecutors in Mordor courts. Sauron sues [in separate civil action] for return of ring ....
In the related civil action, Sauron’s attorney (the Mouth of Sauron) puts forward character witnesses...
Gandalf as a maiar eats, so does Saruman.
Sauron is a maiar as well. DOES HE EAT? ! Does he drink? !
He is evil unlike Gandalf and less humanlike and that's the well. ....
P. S = Does Morgoth and his Balrogs eat?
The title character of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by R. R. Tolkien, Sauron was the most reliable servant of Morgoth before and during the First Age. (Why Was Sauron Considered Morgoth’s Greatest Servant?) He was a fallen Maia, the main antagonist wh...
(By the way this is my first post so might be trash)
Anyway I was (re)reading lotr and I think I saw somewhere that sauron didn't actually die, he was just so, like, reduced or something, so I was wondering if this was true? If so, could I get an explanation?
Apparently, I didn't see that this was a series on Tor.com. This week the article discusses Sauron and I thought it was a pretty good write-up.
Edit: The rest of the Middle-Earth articles in this series can be found here.
We know for certain that he'd have fallen AFTER his defeat at the Battle of the Last Alliance (can't recall the name), as they said Isildur could have and should have destroyed the Ring right then.
But would Sauron have fallen even back in the Second Age if, by some chance, the Numenoreans...
Such are the things I like to wonder about in my spare time XD
Do you reckon their relationship was a frosty one? Would they have competed for Sauron's favour? And would the Mouth have known each Ringwraith according to his measure?
The films obviously portray Sauron as confined to the form of lidless eye. But did Tolkien intend for this to be just a metaphor for his near-omniscience?
Did Sauron in fact have a body during the third age? And if so, why didn't he come forth to lead the war effort himself?
I like to...
He's just a mortal man. Would it even be possible for him to get enough power from it to topple Suaron?
That part I never got as to why it seemed possible that Gondor could do anything with the Ring more than raise a big stink and have Suaron personally come over there and take it.
Sauron vs Morgoth who did More to Counter the Free Peoples?
This is not a question of who was more powerful at creation, but who did more evil to the free peoples. I will argue that Sauron was the most powerful force for darkness in all of Middle-earth. And that his power was greater than...
I had been wondering to myself if it was possible someone could have gotten hold of the Nine Rings and thrown them into Mount Doom without falling to their lure. However, I'm wondering, what became of the Nazgul and the Nine Rings when Sauron fell (the first time, not the final time)?
If...
I’m reading LotR again, and I have a question:
Supposing Frodo, Sam, and Gollum (let’s not forget him!) together failed to destroy the One Ring…
Had Sauron gotten his way at the Morannon, and the West accepted the demands of Sauron delivered by the Mouth of Sauron…
Do you suppose Sauron...
What actually happened was that Gollum and Frodo fought over the Ring, Gollum got it, but fell into the fire and destroyed it. However, all of these other scenarios should have also resulted in the Ring getting destroyed.
Gollum gets it and somehow Frodo and Sam are incapacitated. However...
