thingol

Yes, yes, yes, once again a topic concerning the long-suffering Doriath. Well, masters Eldalië and Atanatári, here's a question - who then raided and massacred the dwarves just plundered Doriath? Fëanorians? Beren (with Ents - yep, I'd like to see that)? Furious Melian?? Or a bored Lúthien...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the Silmarillion mentions Thingol and Turgon as being brothers? However, when I look at family trees they seem to be related only by the marriage of Elwing and Earendil, so I'm not really sure what to think...

I've seen quite different opinions regarding this topic, some say that he was simply a nobleman of Thingol's court while others think he is somehow related to him through one of his brothers. I don't actually remember the reasons supporting the latter but here are some of them 1. Legolas saying...

Chapter 22, "Of the Ruin of Doriath" does state that the Lord of Nogrod "laid his curse upon all the treasure" before he died, and so Beren threw all of it into the River Ascar save for the Nauglamir. A few things to wonder or theorize about: What exactly was the curse, and what did it...

I would say on the whole they're good - but Thingol became quite a jerk in his later years, and Melian while nice, used magic on Thingol to woo him - that seems kinda wrong to me, though im sure Thingol was happy cuz im sure Melian was a total babe lol

Am I the only shmuck that didn't know that Thingol had a named sword? The first I know of him having anything to do with a named sword is when he's giving Anglachel to Beleg. My whole point is that if you name your sword it must be important to you. But then in the back of the Silmarillion is...

Melkor was the first to instruct, or at least he made the suggestion of smithying weaponry to the Eldar, after his release from captivity. We know Aule had instructed Dwarves originally in speech, though in skill they would have the gifts and talents of their maker instilled in their very...

The Silmarillion, Chapter 19: Of Beren and Luthien Another topic from the Debate Tournament. Enjoy:)

Of the fifth Battle Nirnaeth Arnediod, Silmarillion, published Given the circumstances, was Thingol's decision of not participating in the Nirnaeth, a correct one?

Of the Fifth Battle; Nirnaeth Arnediod, Quenta Silmarillion.[77] Given the cirumstances, including Melian's advice and Fëanor's sons threats, do you think Thingol should have surrendered the Silmaril's to Meadhros and co?

Ok first of all, when elves die they become reincarnated in the Halls of Mandos, to await the last battle (obviously). I can't remember where it says this, but it says somewhere that Melian's grief was the worst grief an Ainur has experienced. If she returned to Valinor after the death of...

I've been asked to take over this discussion in the absence of Elu Thingol. A rather short chapter - but a beautiful one. Here are somethings that struck me. Is this the beginning of a Nightingale motive? It seems they play large part in the theme of lovers meeting in the woods. Melian and...

I don't understand something... While I read the Sil again it suddenly occured to me that Thingol have actualy sent Beren into the quest to get him a Silmaril from the crown of Morgoth. Here is a quote: Of Beren and Luthien, 'The Silmarillion' It appears that Thingol actualy desired a...
