I just realized it looking at the covers here:
https://www.tolkienestate.com/painting/the-lord-of-the-rings/
But:
- Nazgul on TTT looks like a pterodactyl
- Throne on the cover of the RotK looks remarkably like depictions of the Ark of the Covenant
In a letter Tolkien wrote "I dislike Dune with some intensity". Now, if he was reffering to the movie that came out this spring I would entirely agree with him. However, it so happens that Dune is a very good book (one of my favorites) and it has many simmilarities to The Lord of the Rings. So...
Hard to decide which "Book" thread this one fits best, but i think this one, as Hillman focuses on Tolkien's work and words, etymologies and such - much like I intend to do in my book it seems... though his focus may be narrower.
I don't know for sure as I've not read it yet...just found out...
I have spent so many years gathering Tolkien fanart. Well, I haven't really kept a proper list that I can simply forward here, so I have done my best to list at least some of the artists.
You may find some of the art girly or even blasphemous at times. But come on, when haven't Morgoth and...
So Tolkien wrote his "trilogy" in actually six books, to be published as a single volume. But did these books have their own titles, or they were simply "Book 1 - 6"?
Here is an interesting video essay by GirlNextGondor. It provides an overview and brief analyses of the many kinds of music inspired by Tolkien's works over the decades.
Put here all your thoughts and resources - be it blog posts, videos you had found etc - discussing various myths and mythologies that did, could have or may have inspired Tolkien.
I will start here with something I found researching Celtic mythology... for my work I based world creation myth on...
If anyone’s interested, someone posted a full play through of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings vol. 1 for SNES. It’s over 3 hours long but could be a fun watch. Not sure I’ve heard of this one before.
"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."
What an introduction.
I always come to a reading of things previously read with a different view, looking for specific things from a specific angle. It tends to turn the read into an entirely new adventure.
This morning, I bumped into this, and...
Rally a people to go to war or prevent them from going so. How different are Merry and Pippin, Fili and Kili and Celegorm and Curufin are from each other?
(You can either take it seriously or lightheartedly.☺️)
I do wonder what they would think of the unabomber called Ted Kaczynski though?
But when you think about it. If people dropped cars and returned to horses. Then it would be more environmental world if you ask me.

I was just rereading the odes to a Nightingale, and on a Greecian Urn, as well as Chapman’s Homer. I bet Keats would have loved Tolkien, although possibly not vice versa. All you poetry fans, see if these porms do not remind you of, especially Lorien, but also Gondolin, Nargothrond, and...
From the linked page (edited and excerpted):
"HarperCollins has announced today that The Collected Poems of J.R.R. Tolkien will be published this September...
The Collected Poem will be a three-volume boxed set. The Amazon UK description gives its extent as 1,368 pages, which is close to the...
This thread is for those like me who have read LotR so many times I have lost count. Why do we keep reading it over and over? I know it is a great book, but there are many great books. I have read many of them, some two or three times, but none like LotR. I have asked myself why for many...
Hey all,
I just received my most recent Amon Hen publication from the Tolkien Society, and so it made me wonder if anyone else on here was a member of the Tolkien Society. I find their publications to be mostly really interesting, and all the original artwork is great. The most recent edition...
Basically, Disney did to fairy tales what modern mass culture does to everything: it dumbed them down, watered them down, much like "butter over too much bread". And Tolkien, who enjoyed mythology and fairy tales, obviously couldn't condone such despicable behavior.
Hi all,
I am looking for reviewers and bloggers to review my soon-to-be-released book, Middle-earth Lore: Tolkien's Legends Revealed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you.
