Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the Silmarillion mentions Thingol and Turgon as being brothers? However, when I look at family trees they seem to be related only by the marriage of Elwing and Earendil, so I'm not really sure what to think...
it says in my language middle earth wiki that turgon is one of the dagor aglareb commanders. Is it true? Was there in the turgon dagor aglareb and battle of lammoth?
If Turgon told no one about his company going to Gondolin, or about Gondolin itself, why is no one actively searching for him when he and his entire group of followers disappear?
Or, is there any reference to him telling anyone that he was leaving, but would not disclose where to?
The following point is taken from another post I made some time ago, regarding Voronwë and how he could be related to Turgon, as he claims he is, but it was only a small point in a much larger thread and wasn't discussed in depth, though it would be nice to see what people think about it...
The Silmarillion: Of the Return of the Noldor
Considering their future kingdoms, and the people that they gathered to themselves. Who was the more effective instrument of Ulmo, in the war against Morgoth, Finrod or Turgon?
Another topic from the Debate-Tournament.
Enjoy:)
From Last Writings in HoME XII:
It seems here that 'Turgon' is correct.
Little later in the essay:
Seems here Turgon is really ment too, but a look at note 9 confuses things:
This sounds like Fingolfin (but there is one small detail which I question). This is what CT says about...
Ahh! If a moderator sees this anytime soon, will you make the title more fitting?
In HoME X, Annals of Aman:"Moreover Fingon and Turgon were bold and fiery of heart and loath to abandon any task to which they had put their hands until the bitter end, if bitter it must be."
From HoME X, in...
Was it perhaps a small error on the parts of Finrod and Turgon that they each believed Ulmo had sent a message to him alone and therefore said nothing to the other?
What happened to the other six ships that Turgon had Cirdan build? Did they make it to the West?
Obviously, they did not drown in a storm or something, but does it say anywhere what happened to them?
Could the Ñoldor of Turgon had been saved?
I have always thought that Turgon messed up big time by not following the advice of Tuor/Ulmo, but can we really blame him?
Why did Turgon became proud and refused the aid of Ulmo?
From the Published Silmarillion : Of Tuor and the Fall of Gondolin...
Since the Lord Turgon's theory concerning Feanor and Hamlet is such a striking and radical concept. I decided to ask people to expand the scope.
The challange put before you all is, to list major similarities between Tolkienian* and Shakespearean characters.
* is that a word?
Just a...
What exactly had Turgon in mind when he sent these seven ships out into the west? Was he seeking aid from the Valar, or from those who had remained after the exile? What hope did he feel lay in the west?
If this was the case and he was seeking help, why then did he refuse to listen to the...
