This is basically an exercise to try and assign 'Dungeons & Dragons' alignments to evil characters in the legendarium. Morgoth is probably clearly chaotic evil, though may also exhibit lawful evil tendencies (for example he commands armies), while Sauron may be described as Lawful evil. Their...
Hello everyone!
I need these informations for a writing project and I don't have access to HoME unfortunately so I was hoping you could help me with it!
I need to know how long did it take for these events to take place:
1.morogth and ungoliant reaching ME
2.the flight of the Noldor and...
Though they don't purely seem to be this (two of them seem to have a certain power level as well that is on a par with Maia, if not higher) but I think Tom Bombadil is an embodiment of carefreeness and Ungoliant and her daughter Shelob are embodiments of gluttony.
I realize that Ungoliant had...
I'm still not sure what Bombadil is, but I now think it's possible that I've found his opposite, Ungoliant, a spider-like creature that appears to have come from the darkness and the Void itself.
Bombadil, on the other hand, is possibly an essence of the Secret Fire itself or something...
so ungoliant devours the two trees (which makes her grow to an immense size, Unknown but I have speculations that she is a bit smaller than ancalagon the black) and demands the three simarils, morgoth refuses and gets pinned and strucked by ungoliant, which sends morgoth into a great cry that...
I'm just wondering, if the Balrogs hadn't rescued Melkor, what would have been his fate. Could Ungoliant have consumed his spirit? Or would she have just consumed his body and, being bound to it, would just float in limbo.
What exactly was she? Of what order of spirits (Maiar, Valar) did she belong before she had been corrupted? The only passage I found to be helpful was from the beginning of Chapter 8: "Of the Darkening of Valinor", from the Silmarillion:
'The Eldar knew not whence she came; but some have said...
This is something that has always puzzled me. Why is it that the Balrogs were able to find and drive Ungoliant away when Tulkas and Orome could not even catch up with her because of the darkness and confusion that she wove about herself and Melkor? Any ideas?
This thread is similar to Flame of Utmno's post on Huan the dog
I always imagined Ungoliant as a sleek black widow before sucking the sap out of the Two Trees of Valinor. Afterwards I picture her turning into a more robust tarantula.
Does anyone else have any idea what kind of spider...
If a Balrog and Ungoliant were to fight, who would win the battle? They are both powerful maia, corrupted by Melkor, and you may jump to the conclusion that Balrogs are more powerful, BUT:
From "Of the Darkening of Valinor":
From "Of the Flight of the Noldor":
There's a lot more to...
So, my question is this: Is Ungoliant a Maia, Vala (:( ) or something else. If something else, explain to me what exactly this vile Spider Queen is and how she got to be so powerful (who, what created her) or anything else you may want to add.
I voted for something else, but Im not sure as...
