Ebert and Roper Two Thumbs Up!

One of them, either Ebert or Roper, said that his favorite character was "Airwen." I've heard of Arwen and Eowyn, but never of Airwen. He probably meant Arwen. Oh well.

It will be funny to see how many people are in favor of this review (i.e. Ebert knows what he's talking about) when so many slammed him for berating TTT though we all found out that he was fully justified in his arguments.

The fickleness of movie fans. :)

What do you make of them saying that they now appreciate FotR and TTT more, now they have seen all three? So isnt that an admission that they WEREN'T justified their criticisms?;)

On the contrary. I see it as honesty as far as single movie evaluation (hey, if it stunk, say it!). Ebert slammed TTT because of the moving away of the focus on hobbits and more on man, a deviation of theme from Tolkien. Purists like Maggot have been rightly criticising it for that since TTT came out. However, in RoTK, the focus is back on the hobbits where it should be and not only Frodo and Sam rising to the task, but Pippin as well. Ebert was right on both assessments.

I see it as a testament to their objectivity to look at all the films as a whole and make a judgement on it.
