I wonder if anyone is interested in reading certain texts from the HoME and then commenting or asking questions regarding it.
This would be something like the chapter by chapter discussion that we have had for The Hobbit, LotR, and The Silmarillion. Different only in that we need not read the texts in the same order as they are found in the books.
My chief interest lies in the Later Quenta, Annals of Aman and Grey Annals, and in particular all materials found in HoME10-12 which are associated with First Age and add to The Silmarillion as most readers know it.
Some material I would suggest are:
Quendi and Eldar
Dangweth Pengolodh
Of Dwarves and Men
Q&E appendices
Shibboleth of Feanor
Statute of Finwe and Miriel, The Debate of the Valar
Laws and Customs
Athrabeth Finrod Ah Andreth
Last Writings... anyone not weary of the Glorfindel matter?
And dare we tackle... Myth's Transformed
Probably others have favorites they'll want to discuss. Notion Club Papers is interesting, as are the texts I listed above, some of which are underappreciated IMO.
We could think of something to call these discussions and from then on anyone could open a thread whenever they read one of the HoME texts, or post in a pre-existing one.
All this idea will accomplish may be just to give readers encouragement to open a thread with no need to necessarily have some awesome thread topic as a reason.
This will also be a chance for us to talk about the lesser discussed material with others. Speaking for myself I regret the low popularity of Q&E and Dangweth. But it is also good to have fresh discussions on more well known texts such as Athrabeth.
