🪦 Maryam Mirzakhani, the only woman in history who won the Fields medal

Rest In Peace
Cancer...
I remember my math teacher talking about her when she passed away.
She has always been a big role model for me as I attended the same branch of schools as her. Taught me anyone can be great if they work hard for it.

I believe it might have been back in 2017 when she passed away.
Very likely; due to her singular achievement.
This year's Nobel Laureate in Economics (first awarded in 1969), Claudia Goldin, is only the third woman to receive this award, and the first female solo recipient. The two previous awards, in 2009 and 2019, were shared awards.
It's not better in the science prizes.
But then early on, Marie Curie shared the third Physics Prize in 1903 with her husband Pierre and Henri Becquerel, and won the Chemistry Prize outright in 1911 - the only double winner in two different sciences. Continuing the family tradition, Marie and Pierre's daughter Irène Joliot-Curie shared the 1935 Chemistry Prize with her husband Frédéric Joliot. That means that Marie and Irène account (by 2018) for one of three Physics Prizes, and two of five Chemistry Prizes awarded to women - out of a total of 210 respectively 181 prizes awarded in that time. These totals reflect, besides years without prizes - six respectively eight - shared wins in the fields, more frequent in physics than chemistry.
