Many people are beginning to use the new software available, so here's a thread to post yours. Show what you can do! 🙂

There's tons of artwork out there but I figured maybe we could use this thread to share some of our favorites that we've come across by other artists. If you post any, try to give credit to the original artist in your post. I'll start, I found this on Reddit this morning of Turin vs Glaurung...

Balrog attempt.

I dumped in the description of the "spirits of fire" from The Silmarillion, and then tweaked it until the renderings measured up. AI figured out the "humanoid cloud of smoke and flame", and the "yellow eyes that glowed like furnaces" pretty easilly. The "tongue like red knives" just never worked out, so I eventually left it out, and the "horse-like mane of hair which could be set on fire" just never materialized, no matter how I phrased it. In the second image the "heart of fire" came out nicely, and the "claws of steel" also weren't too difficult to make.

I did not attempt the wings of darkness; IMHO balrogs don't have physical wings (NOT opening that argument here!), and wanted to focus more on the other features. I also left out the "fiery scourges". Something for next time I suppose.

I will say, nothing I've seen in media portrayals has come close to the image of balrogs which Tolkien's words created in my head, and I don't expect it to. As you can probably tell, I'm not super impressed with any of this, but whatever, it's AI, so what did we expect.........
