🎶 The Official TTF Music Thread! 🎶

@d4rk3lf , taking our convo here so as to not derail the Joke and Meme thread! But since you describe yourself as a metalhead, you might like this. It's a rock version of Vivaldi's Winter, kind of like the Beethoven's Fifth you posted. I really, really love this sort of music.

I used to listen pretty strictly to only classical music, but I've been getting a lot more into rock and metal lately. I think Phantom of the Opera was the gateway drug for me, combining an 80s rock band sound with rich operatic vocals. Also, I don't think classical music (especially Baroque music) and rock/metal are very far removed from each other. They are both intricate and complex and highly structured, with vocals focusing on high notes and heavy vibrato. They're also both very dramatic. Hence why I think Vivaldi sounds so good when played on electric instruments.

@Maedhros_Nelyafinwë
That's cool.
Nice song, although it might be too "light-hearted" for my personal taste.

I started listening rock/metal very early (9-10 years old) with Guns'n'Roses (well, what better time, since this is when Terminator 2 come out ), and then quickly switched to Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura.. etc.
Iron Maiden being always my favorite, since they are so melodic, and you have to listen to their songs many times, until you memorize all bits of awesomeness.
Somewhere at 14-15 I started listening to Black, Gothic and Doom Metal.. and indeed these ganders (esspecialy Gothic with all the synths, orchestra's) drawn a lots of inspiration from classical music.

When you mentioned Baroque, I immediately thought of Haggard.
This is best Baroque/Metal sound I ever heard:

Then there is famous Therion (even Pavarotti and Christopher Lee were guests on their albums)

Apocaliptica is also pretty famous.. guys playing on cello's.

In many metal bands, there's at least beats and pieces of classical music, even in black metal albums, the intros often are.
I'll probably remember some more bands, and will post it here.

Cheers bro

Glad you liked it. There's more from that ensemble on YouTube.

BTW, the soloist on the Swingle Singers video is Christiane Legrande, a very talented scat singer. Here's another featuring her:
I had one of their lps back then too, and listened to it often.
