What Are Your 🎶Music Endeavors Right Now?

Unfortunately, there are no guys I know who would, or could, sing Raoul’s part with me (or who I would want to sing such a loving song with either, for that matter).
I just received this amazingly hilarious mental picture of Fingon, being the lovable troll he is, singing this with you while also goofing around the entire time, never missing a beat, all in the attempts of getting you to break character and laugh/mess up. 🤣

YES PLEASE. I would love to sing it with Fingon, and I could absolutely picture him being purposely over-theatrical and goofing around. It would not take much to make me break down laughing. 😂

Heck yes! Our bro is tackling that song like a boss. >_>

I am sure that you liking the song so much, and as such listening to it a lot even before you were learning it, helped with you sounding good so quickly. It helps to be familiar with the song, and liking it a lot provides extra motivation to do it justice.

Last night, my voice teacher and I decided we're satisfied with "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera! This certainly won't be the last I see of this song, and at a minimum I hope to take a nice recording of it (and post it here on TTF and other places). And I really hope to perform it publicly at some point as well. It is one of the songs that made me want to learn how to sing, so it really is a dream come true to have learned it properly.

Next, my voice teacher says we can complete the Christine Trifecta and work on "All I Ask Of You!"

I certainly want to hear it. :3

I agree with all you said! I am teaching myself piano and music in general at the moment; I think I might like to play another instrument at some point. I have found that practicing in the evening (sometimes right before bed) works well for whatever reason.
I will try to incorporate more 'playing around with theory'; it sounds like a great idea and one should always have fun while learning.

Certainly! I played it about a year ago. 😄

Violinist of nearly 20 years here! Though I don't play much these days because I find singing easier and more enjoyable.
👏 😊 I think violin would be so much fun! I don't know, but I might try it out after cello...then again, I am also considering flute.🤣 But hey, why not!

Next week I'll practice again the runs of "Mi tradi quell'alma ingrata". I'm so excited! 🎶
This sounds like a lovely and angsty song from Don Giovanni, and would provide quite a challenge with those runs! I know it's been some months, but how have you been doing with it?

Anyone play cello or another stringed instrument? I had my first cello lesson today! (Wow is it nice to already know music theory... 😅)
I don't play any stringed instruments currently, though someday it would be nice to learn how to play the piano and perhaps a lyre (for Fingon). My primary instrument is my voice, though. Very cool you're beginning to learn the cello! I love the rich, low hum it produces. What inspired you to choose this instrument?

~~~
In my voice lessons of recent, I've continued working on "Mein Herr Marquis" from Die Fledermaus and "Ave Maria" by Schubert for my current classical songs. To give variety from those, a couple weeks ago my teacher picked out two older songs in the musical theatre genre; one is "That's Him" from the 1943 musical One Touch of Venus, and the other is "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin (originally heard in the 1936 part-talkie/silent film Modern Times). Both are lovely selections and suit my voice very well! I love the style of these older songs and have sung a couple others like them in the past.
^This version is sung by Judy Garland, but I recently posted another version sung by Nat King Cole and featuring clips from Modern Times in the Official TTF Music Thread. I like this song because it encourages us to keep smiling even when life gets hard.
The lyre would certainly be so cool to play; full of history - and easily portable.
I guess I loved the rich, drawn sounds of the cello as well. (I always enjoyed occasionally using the sustaining pedal in piano when it isn't there for fun for the rich sound. And the organ's richness has always stood out to me.) Cello was in my mind for some time until one day, not long ago, I was watching a concert with strings; I felt so inspired to play it, and the idea was firmly grounded, so here I am.
I love what you are working on with your voice; a truly incredible and beautiful instrument! 😊
No I can't play anything and I feel like a loser cuz everyone Ik can play something.
Now now, just because you don't currently play anything doesn't make you a loser. It's never too late to begin learning something; even though you don't play anything now doesn't mean you never will. I know you have a passion for musical theatre, so perhaps you could use that as a springboard for considering where you might like to start, if you want to. Even just singing songs for the fun of it is something, and see how you might grow from there, if you want to learn how to read music or perhaps start taking lessons.
Indeed-- portable enough to bring along on rescue missions and climb volcanoes with! 😂
I also often see David from the Bible playing a lyre in depictions of him, which adds to its appeal. 😊
If you love the sound of an organ, you should look up Anna Lapwood. She travels around the world playing on massive pipe organs, and the music she plays is absolutely incredible. It's also amazing just to watch her play because of the layered complexity it requires to bring this music to life, and she does it so masterfully.
It must really have settled in your heart enough to want to go out and find yourself a cello and somewhere to take lessons for it! I am glad it is something you have found you enjoy, and I wish you all the best with it. ✨
I love what you are working on with your voice; a truly incredible and beautiful instrument! 😊
Thank you! ☺️
Fun thread! I love reading what you all do and as I'm branching back out into the great forum, I'll share my own endeavors.
Still play some guitar, but a hand injury has made that less than ideal. I sing in choir at my church, though (with just one other girl, so we are the choir) and write/sing my own worship music.
Wow! Lots of talent in this thread-- you all are seriously impressive!
