Why Watch 'Rings of Power'?

Gil Galad is an Elven King.
In season two he'll don more bling.
He'll act more kingly-wise...you'll see,
Just wait then watch his hair blow free.
His heart'll soar proud, but not his spleen,
His eyes'll burn bright like acetylene.

(I really shouldn't write poetry in the evening time. This is getting too silly even for me. I better end it here.)

Can anyone cite for me any movie or series in history that has engendered so much continued discussion - even disagreement and strife?
Ent's memory isn't producing any results when the question is fed to his heartwood.

Many has tried precious, ho yes, but none has succeeded, no precious not even close.

Can anyone cite for me any movie or series in history that has engendered so much discontinued plot, unlikable characters, moronic dialogues, disrespecting world and lore, and accusing fans that are terrible beings?

OT, but sure. Off the top of my head, the Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, and DC universes.
Well, Star whatever originated in the visual media. Which I would postulate also holds true for the two comic book-derived franchises.
Then, digestive products hitting fans has really taken off with the exponential growth of the Internet, specifically the WWW, in the current century.
I have a fat DVD box with the first ten ST films - 1979-2002. For SW, it's two three-DVD boxes, with the original and the prequel trilogies - 1977-83 and 1999-2005.

With all due respect to Gene Roddenberry and George Lucas, or the near-legendary Stan Lee & Co. - none of them are a JRRT.

TTF got started just before "Fellowship" premiered in 2001. In old threads, I still stumble across the term "modem" - that would mean low Kbit transfer rates. Now, "smart"-phones have transfer rates several orders of magnitude higher (I have a 100-Mbit WLan at home). And besides outright criminals discovering the benefits of a nearly unregulated medium, antisocial trolls have done the same.

Then there's the business model of the dominant Internet companies. Perverse incentives wherever you look (there's been more than enough of this kind of garbage even in the non-IT business world, with the microscopic attention spans on short-term song-and-dance with an extremely narrow focus - the IT trolls just took it to another level).

So no, I'm not surprised that "Casablanca" or (to name a book-derived film series) "The Godfather" never generated such torrents of mental diarrhea ...

Well, actually, yes. there are many, to be deathly honest. RoP is no prize chicken winning the prize for the 'most skewed bird in the flock.' Not by a good ways.
So as to my own opinion on that matter, I submit the reason must be something else.

You have some sound reasoning in your response, sir Olorgando, which I can see how may lend itself to big parts of the picture at hand.
Thank you.
Let me know if any other thoughts about pertinent reasons come to mind.

Re-reading yours (sanitized of some slight underlying vitriol) and coupling it with Sir Olorgando's, I can see a good interplay between the two responses, the one enhancing the other simply due to possibility and availability to do so, not available in earlier times for some of the prior poorly handled movies.

We begin to scratch the surface of possible influences here.
Sorry my first response was so dismissive. Your thoughts have merit.

‘The Rings Of Power’ Was A Massive Flop That Most Viewers Gave Up On

Amazon’s Lord Of The Rings drama, The Rings Of Power, was a flop. Not only was it snubbed almost entirely during awards season, it turns out that a mere 37% of people who started the show actually ended up finishing it.

From the Forbes article:
One theory I’ve read is that The Rings Of Power was actually written by AI, which would explain why the story was so bizarre and the writing and dialogue seemed so . . . fake.
This thought occurred to me too. It would explain much.

Really excellent article, btw. This guy really speaks my language:

It's also a great way to 'shift blame'. Not sure I buy it. Besides, it doesn't remove the necessity for a human to check what's been done and insure it makes sense. For the amount of money they're spending, it would make it even more unacceptable if they were failing to check out an AI product this early in AI's game. (Besides... AI has to be fed the scenario, specifics, outcomes, etc. to even begin to make a statement.)

True, you should still have pairs of human eyes checking the script.

Reactions: Ent
But there's one arena where RoP excels, Ent suspects almost all will agree with.
RoP sits high on the "Greatest Missed Opportunities" list.

Perhaps, though one could say it was a massively ambitious undertaking to start with, given what the showrunners had to work with, which was very, very little; though what little they did have to work with was curiously, conspicuously absent (which seems to suggest to me more indication of AI involvement).
