Amon Din was one of the oldest and conspicuous beacon hills of Gondor. It was located close to Minas Tirith, between the pine forest of Drúadan and the Grey Wood. Initially, it was used as an outpost by the Men of Gondor to keep a watch over the roads from Dagorlad to North Ithilien and prevent any enemies from crossing Anduin near Cair Andros. It was one of the seven Warning beacons located on the White Mountains of Gondor's foot-hills to be lit before the siege.
