The Quest to Lonely Mountain
The Mountain King or Oakenshield had a company of Dwarves. Dwarves belonged to a few races existing in Middle Earth. They were also known as Khazad. One of his companies was Gloin. He belonged to the men who fought for reclaiming the lost mountain. He is the son of a Durin's Folk Dwarf named Groin. He was the patriarch of a well-respected part of the Hobbit second film adaptation. It was Gimli. Gloin was a supporting persona in the film series. He had a brief exposure in the first adaptation of the series, at the Imladris, an Elven town. In the Third Age of 2799, Gloin was part of the last war waged by the dwarves to the orcs. The final battle fought happened in Azanulbizar. It has claimed a lot of casualties. In the following years of 2941, Oakenshield's dwarven company included Gloin, Dwalin, Balin, and Oin. They were on their way to reclaim the lost kingdom from the firedrake dragon. Gloin was known for his skillset tinkering a box full of tinders. Oin, Gloin's brother, were both responsible for igniting fire whenever they camped with the company. He survived the great battle between the Orcs and the allied forces in Erebor. After the war had subsided, he decided to come back home.
The Ring War
In Imladris, a meeting held in secrecy was hosted by the Lord of Rivendell. The council was created in the Third Age of 3018. Its purpose was to decide the fate of the Ring of Power. Gimli, Gloin's son, was a part of the council. He was welcomed by some of the Hobbits from the Shire. Frodo sustained wounds from the commander of the Ringwraiths. He was still recovering from it. During the council, he shared the stories behind Erebor and Dale. Baggins left the Shire, and the Dwarf leader rebuilt Dwarrowdelf or also known as Khazad-dûm. It was an abandoned kingdom under the Misty Mountains. It was the most magnificent realm of the ancient dwarves. Gimli gave a warning to the council about the emissary of Sauron's chosen realm. These emissaries were advancing King Dain. They were trying to extract information regarding the whereabouts of the Master Ring, Bilbo, and Frodo. Gloin passed away when he was two hundred fifty-three years old in FA15. It was never proven if he was at Dale when Sauron's forces ransacked it.
Glóin's Ancestry Line
Gloin's line descended from Farin. He had two sons, Groin and Fundin. Groin had two sons as well. It was Gloin and Oin. Among the two, Gloin has a son named Gimli. Fundin had two sons too. It was Balin and Dwalin. They were family.
Depiction in Adaption
Films
- Film Trilogy of Peter Jackson - In its first installment, Gloin had a short appearance as they were entering and Eleven town, Imladris. Gimli was portrayed by the same actor who did Treebeard. It was the actor John Davies.
- 1977's Hobbit Animated Film [1] - In this Hobbit's version, Gloin was the only cast who survived. Oin and Gloin took part in the war of the allied forces against the Wargs and Orcs. They were there to support the cause of the Mountain King.
- The Movie Trilogy of the Hobbit [2]- In the 2012 adaptation, the version of the Unexpected Journey of the Hobbit, Gloin had been portrayed by a single actor throughout the series. It was Peter Hambleton. He also voiced out the stone troll named William.
In the series adaptations of Peter Jackson, Gloin was presented using a set of axes. It was similar in appearance to Gimli's set. The production studio released a press release regarding the said role in the anticipated movies: Gloin was described as the only character of the company that is blunt and unyielding. He never feared to question the authorization. He was the only character from the company who had a wife. This is due to the fact that dwarves have fewer females. He was bold, firm, and robust. He had a weakness in handling his temper. He had an offspring; Gimli is his name.

He was seized right after he fought off the arachnids. A Sindarin Elf named Legolas insulted the portraiture of the dwarf's family. The company was trying to hide Bard the Bowman into Esgaroth. They forced Gloin to cover the outstanding money they needed to pay for Bard's smuggling. He gave in to their request and helped his companions.

Video Games
There was a card game developed by Fantasy Flight Games. It consists of Hero cards with corresponding characters in the series. Gloin belonged to their group. Gloin's power is allowing him to make marks while his health is depleting bit by bit. In the online world, he had a short scene when the Mountain King departed. He reappeared in Hithaeglir. They set up a camp near Goblin's entryway to manage the threats. During the Third Age of 3018, he reacquainted with the survivors of the battle that happened to Dale. The dwarf named Nori led a journey against the King’s strict orders.
