The Host of The Valinor

The Host of the Valinor was a stalwart army brought to Middle-earth by ships from Aman.

Description

Also referred to as the Host of the West, it was a mighty army consisting of Vanyar headed by Ingwion. Finarfin led the rest of the Noldor of Valinor. There were Maiar, some Valar, and Manwë's forerunner Eönwë as well. [1] This army fought the War of Wrath and defeated Morgoth, which brought an end to the First Age.

History

The Valar was convinced to join the army by Eärendil the Mariner. In FA 545, a great brigade was aggregated, consisting of Vanyar and Noldor Elves of Valinor, Finarfin, Manwë, Valar, and the Teleri. Maia Eönwë and Ingwion were chiefs controlling a part of the army. Teleri, however, complied only to sail his ships carrying the troops to Beleriand. The congregated Edain accompanied the Host at Beleriand. The army could easily defeat the forces sent by Morgoth in Anfauglith. But, the great winged Dragons of Ancalagon The Black chased the army on approaching the Gates of Angband. The Host of the West defeated the warriors of Morgoth with Eärendil and the Eagles' support led by Thorondor. Ancalagon died in the War of Wrath. The Host came out victorious and captured Morgoth. [2] At the end of the first age, the Host of the Valinor successfully ended Morgoth's reign with the help of the Great Eagles and Earendil.
