Núrn

Núrn, located beyond Mount Doom of Mordor, was fertile enough to farm and was mostly filled with short grasses. The north-western part of Núrn was found, the barren Plateau of Gorgoroth. At its center was a large inland water body called the Sea of Núrnen. [1] This sea was fed by rivers flowing through the plains of Núrn from the mountain ranges in the western and southern borders of Mordor. [2]​

This lowland of Mordor was home to the Westron-speaking slaves of the Dark Lord Sauron. These slaves worked in the semi-arid fields of Núrn to supply food for the soldiers of Sauron's army. [3] It was the primary source of food for Sauron's men during the War of the Ring, and the plains were filled with grains harvested by Sauron's slaves. The grasslands were irrigated by the dark, sad waters of Lake Núrnen, and the soil was enriched by the volcanic eruptions of Mount Doom. After Sauron's demolition in the War of the Ring, the land of Núrn was granted to the slaves of Mordor by King Elessar and was totally under their control. It became an independent land governed by these slaves.​

The two maps present in Gorgoroth had a depiction of the north-western regions of Núrn. There are several descriptions of the fortress of Barad-wath and the unique Ostigurth. These landmarks guarded the lands of Núrn lying between Gorgoroth and Núrn.​

Núrn is depicted similarly in both versions of the game. Nurnen plays an integral part in the game and is depicted as a land filled with greenery but is ailing. It is located below the valley of Udûn, a ring-shaped plain surrounded by mountains. Before the War of the Ring, the land was occupied by the tribesmen who are descendants of Corsairs. Their leader is Queen Marwen. They inhabit the plains surrounding the Sea of Núrn after Gondor's retreat hundreds of years ago. During the game, Sauron, the Dark Lord, tries to launch an attack on Núrn and conquer it. They are defeated and captured as slaves by the Dark Lord. Barad Núrn, a fortress to watch over the Sea of Núrnen, Fort Morn, a trading hub, and a Fishery, is situated in Núrn. During the War of the Ring, it was the primary source of food supply for Sauron's army. The fortress of Sharkhburz, the first fortress conquered by Talion, is located in Núrn. Many beasts of Mordor like the two-legged Graugs, monstrous Trolls, Wargs, aggressive Caragors, deadly Caragaths, Ghûls, Hell-hawks, Flying Fell Beasts are inhabitants of Núrn.
