Hello,

Is this is the right place to discuss about Tolkien and his creations?
I hope this forrum is active because I am an old fan of Tolkien since childhood, and I would like to discuess about several issues, for example this question I asked myself when reading LOTR at the last time (I do it every 4 years): You may remember the old guy who is charged on the sanatorium of Minas Tirith and like philology- like the author himself as we all know, showed in rather a ridiculous way, not typical for Tolkien style.
I have a guess that this was a little private joke by Tolkien on hiimself.

Would be nice to hear your opinions abotu it,

Welcome feanor75,
I know the passage that you are referring to. I've never thought of it that way, but I like your take on it. I think JRRT may have been spoofing himself or maybe someone else that he knew in the field. Now every time I read that passage, I'm going to be reminded of your idea and smile.

Hi Starbrow!

It's so good to talk again with other Tolkien fans, its been long time since I done that.
Thanks for your reply

Hi Feanor, I don't remember this situation, but Tolkien certainly loves the subtle jokes. Just think about the name Ents, and there long rambling character. :)

Hi Sulimo, of course there are lot of jokes in LOTR, some of them more hiden. Unfortunately my english is not good enough to understand the words game that you mentioned about the Ents.
