I'll take Gandalf's word on it.

'Hurray!' cried Pippin, springing up. 'Here is our noble cousin! Make way for Frodo, Lord of the Ring!'

'Hush!' said Gandalf from the shadows at the back of the porch. 'Evil things do not come into this valley, but all the same we should not name them. The Lord of the Ring is not Frodo, but the master of the Dark Tower of Mordor, whose power is again stretching out over the world!'

Sauron, who else? He made the One Ring, and with specific purpose to bind other Rings to his will. In addition to what SeS wrote, there is also the fact that Galadriel believes if Sauron gains back the One Ring, everything bearers of other Rings had done will be open to him.

Should a vote be cast that takes away 100% from Sauron, I would certainly be interested in the explanation.
I do have a hidden favorite for such a revisionist view … 🤐

Post-modernist, eh? ;)
A term I avoid using, being one of those that have probably lost all meaning by being used outside of the specialist discipline where it was coined (architecture, I believe).

But just do NOT get me started on the tabloid use (99.9% of the cases) of "quantum leap"!
Except some with more than a passing knowledge of physics, in which case (unbeknownst to the ignorant masses) they really Do mean "smallest possible difference".
In everyday language "we are really not going to change a dang thing!"

The lord of the ring is not Frodo
