I found this "family picture" on the twitter-account of Fellowship of Fans:

I found this "family picture" on the twitter-account of Fellowship of Fans:

That is quite the family! This must be then, before the Fall and death of Feanor

A couple more by Donato Giancola.

Here's an interview:

Interpreting Middle-earth With Artist Donato Giancola - Reactor

When I visited Venice last year, I was overcome by the quality and quantity of the art filling the great halls of the famous Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace). The works of Italian Renaissance painters like Paolo Veronese and Tintoretto surround you and nearly overwhelm you in that place. Saints...

A few by Raoul Vitale.

The first image was made by Andrea Piparo though

Ahah, I see it was misidentified in my source. Thanks.

Wow, these are gorgeous!
I lover the Gandalf/Balrog picture, it's an image we don't often see.

Thanks SES! Ever find anything "closer" of the Fellowship section?

I used to have this poster until, alas, it was damaged by water.

These look very much like the movies. Interesting.

From David Wenzel's Hobbit-comicbook of 1990:

Ever find anything "closer" of the Fellowship section?

I did find this:

Still a bit small, I'm afraid.

Frodo by Matthew Stewart

A stout little fellow with red cheeks,' said Mr. Butterbur solemnly.... '[Taller] than some and fairer than most, and he has a cleft in his chin: perky chap with a bright eye. Begging your pardon, but he said it, not me.'

This depiction must be inspired by the movies, right? Nevertheless, it is good artwork.

Unique!

Art by J.R.R. Tolkien himself. Here we see the authentic appearance of Smaug (who's decidedly smaller than I would have thought; size was one of the things the films got right, IMHO).

Tolkien, once more, showing us that his dragons are called "worms" not for naught: they are long and sinuous.

The proper shape of the Crown of Gondor (the cone similar to the Crown of Upper Egypt, with wings on the side)
