[Olorgando]

Currently listening to an album on YouTube, by Robbie McIntosh - the guitarist, not the late Average White Band drummer.
First read about him in a book about Douglas Adams, the author of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", with whom McIntosh was befriended.
McIntosh was the lead guitarist in Paul McCartney's band from 1988 to 1993 - and besides that seems to have recorded with everyone up to their third cousins, very much in demand as a seesion guitarist.
The album I'm listening to is from 1999, and apparently Adams had heard a sort of demo tape of the songs, all guitar instrumentals, and nagged McIntosh until he had it released under the title "Unsung".
Currently listening to the seventh title, definitely all good stuff so far. I'll just link the entire album here.

EDIT: not all guitar instrumentals (an impression I had from the Adams book), probably with members of his own band that he formed in 1998.

Here's a live performance from 1993, when McIntosh was lead guitarist with McCartney's band. The vocals are a bit muffled, bad miking, perhaps.

[Olorgando]

A mind-bending slide guitar performance (might make a lot of guitarists consider taking up the trumpet or whatever ... )

Hey, it's almost Spring, so let's get ready to party like it's 1943! 😃

Which singer's voice would you want to hear as you lay dying? My current pick is this one:

But we'll see how it goes.

Deep Purple Mark II appearing on German TV back in 1971 (when I lived in the US) ...
... lyrics could have been written yesterday ... 👿

?????????????????????????

In 1968 Jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald did a cover version of the Cream song "Sunshine Of Your Love"!!!!!

[Olorgando]

Same song, Eric Clapton and a few buddies in Tokyo 1988 ...

... and doing another buddy's song at the same concert ...

Strolled through YouTube's musical section yesterday (and the day before) as has been my wont recently.
Almost as often, I stumbled across something new to me, and definitely in serious "ehwot?????" territory.

Now Glen Campbell, through his 1969-72 "Goodtime Hour" TV show was definitely not a new name to me, as I lived in the US at the time.
What I totally missed, for several reasons, is the fact that Campbell was one of the undisputed guitar giants.
What I've learned since then is that any musician described as an in-demand session player is usually seriously good.
And a trivial pursuit anecdote about Campbell is that one Eddie v. H. thought that taking guitar lessons from Campbell was a good idea ...

Judge for yourself:

[Olorgando]

I've been having fantasies about Glen Campbell joining this GOAT guitar trio to expand it to a GOAT quartet ... yes, I'm not a musician myself ... 😬

... here's the two trio pieces from that legendary album "Friday Night in San Francisco" (I actually saw them live in West Berlin in 1983 😛 ):

[Olorgando]

Yes, "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Cream is probably my favorite song.

Found another cover version, from Toto's 2002 album "Through the Looking Glass", an album all of whose songs were cover versions of songs by other artists.
You'd have to ask someone versed in musical theory what exactly their rhythmic twist to the song is (definitely not the 4/4 rhythm of the original).
Steve Lukather on guitar and lead vocals ...

[Olorgando]

Roy Buchanan, probably the most underrated guitarist of the 1970's an 80's (he had already recorded in the 60's) also recorded versions of "Sunshine Of Your Love", but this live recording of his own "Roy's Bluz" strikes me as better:

OOPS! Seems you can only watch it in YouTube directly, not in a link in TTF ...

This is rather surreal.

So's this:

I finally found a captioned copy of IU's music video of her first-released song, so thought I'd post it here. Westerners long exposed to MTV and the like won't realize just how shocking this was to a Korean Kpop audience used to "cute concept" from female artists, and especially coming from a 15-year-old. It nearly derailed her career before it got off the ground:

She was forced to revert to the "cute" sort of material expected, eventually becoming known as "Korea's Little Sister". It took years of work, but she was finally able to gain the power to take control of her singular path, and make the music she wants to make.
