La Jument de Michao - Breton French song

Lyrics:

Translation:
It's in ten years, I'll be leaving,
I hear the wolf and the fox singing,

I hear the wolf, the fox and the weasel,
I hear the wolf and the fox singing

It's in nine years, I'll be leaving,
Michao's mare passed through the meadow

Michao's mare and her little foal,
Passed through the meadow and ate all the hay

Winter will come, guys, winter will come,
Michao's mare, she'll repent of it

(The verses repeat, with the number of years decreasing, until one year is left and the song ends)

April the 25th was ANZAC Day, remembering the soldiers of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who fought and died in the Gallipoli campaign of the First World War. They sailed from the port city of Albany in Western Australia. I used to live in a town not far from there.

Lyrics:

From all over Australia, New Zealand too
The willing heeded the call
From the farms and the goldfields, small towns, big cities
To the West they came one and all

To the harbour they marched with purpose and pride
To what fate no-one could say
On Mt Clarence the townspeople gathered to cheer
As they boarded the ships in the bay

From the green hills of Albany
They sailed away to sea
From King George Sound
To their destiny bound
In the hills of Gallipoli

‘Twas a sight never seen before nineteen fourteen
A convoy of ships so grand
Thirty thousand aboard headed for the Great War
In a far away foreign land

To the distant horizon they headed full steam
Looking back to the land from the sea
And the last sight for many of the country they loved
Were the green hills of Albany

Instrumental (The Last Post)

On Mt Clarence the townspeople gathered once more
This time quiet and still
In the dawn’s early light they made their pledge
Remember them
Remember them
Remember them – we will

As a sort of addendum, @LaurelinBearsFruit, even music artists have different ways of dealing with grief: here's an example -- one of the saddest "happy" songs I've ever heard:
(English captions available)

IU's songs -- and videos -- are sometimes multilayered, as is this one. I won't go into detail (there are explanatory videos on YouTube); I'll just say here that it is, in part, reaction to losing three close friends, including her long-time best friend.

It always brings me close to tears.

Interesting, have never heard of Eva Cassidy or IU. The Eva song was very nice. Always fun to see just how different all of our music tastes are. Here is a really piercingly beautiful Grateful Dead song that doesn't necessarily deal explicitly with grief, but does touch on the strangeness and dream-likeness of the human experience.

Lyircs:
All the years combine
they melt into a dream
A broken angel sings
from a guitar
In the end there's just a song
comes crying like the wind
through all the broken dreams
and vanished years
Stella Blue

When all the cards are down
there's nothing left to see
There's just the pavement left
and broken dreams
In the end there's still that song
comes crying like the wind
down every lonely street
that's ever been
Stella Blue

I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel
Can't win for trying
Dust off those rusty strings just
one more time
Gonna make em shine

It all rolls into one
and nothing comes for free
There's nothing you can hold
for very long
And when you hear that song
come crying like the wind
it seems like all this life
was just a dream
Stella Blue

IU came to be called "Korea's Little Sister" after debuting at age 15. Now, at age 30, she's a musical superstar (as well as an award-winning actor). "Eight" resonated with her fans; she opened her 2022 Golden Hour concert with it, for an audience of 80,000 over two days:

As for Eva,ABC Nightline did a story on her in 2001; the only episode they ever repeated IIRC, due to thousands of requests:
One thing they didn't mention concerning the playing of "Over the Rainbow" was the number of people who said they were driving, and had to pull over because they couldn't see through their tears.

Fortunately, a tape of her performing it live turned up:
One note of caution: I sent a link to the Nightline episode to a friend, who later told me she found herself at 1AM "bawling like a little girl" -- so be prepared, if you decide to watch it.

Someone said this song is the epitome of a woman's love for a man, and I can't help but agree.

I'll only translate the chorus here.

Put your head on my shoulder and weep freely and bitterly
like those cries of grief that choked your breath

Let me believe that I can be a refuge
For the loneliness of a man in love
@Server Room Gremlin kind of reminds me of Nessa and Edrahil as well.
