What was in Eowyn's Stew?

I'm not a cook but the white lumps look like chunks of fat or lard to me, not really meat. Like, maybe she ran out of meat, so she threw that in instead thinking it came from the same place so it'd be close enough.

Other then that, some very dry, not great looking herbs are definitely in there. I remember from when my mom occasionally makes stew, I can't recall what it's called but there are these large leaves that you are supposed to put in the broth while it cooks, but then take out when it's done (they are edible, but not an intended part of the dish). The dark green herb bits in the stew always remind me of that, because they don't look particularly normal or appetizing.

Oh! Bay leaves?
Yes, that's what they were called!! Thanks Nelyo
I would certainly guess so. I’ve cooked with bay leaves many times. It’s fun trying to fish them out of whatever pasta or soup they were added to. 😂
I remember my mom forgot to pull them out one time when I was a kid, my brother and I were so confused becuase it looked like she'd just thrown in some leaves from the yard 😂

Dead Warg Meat?

Twenty years on and Éowyn is remembered for that stupid stew cast-joke scene.

I think it definitely depends on where you go, honestly . . . I don't see stew jokes very often compared to other ones in the fandom.

(And for the record I quite like it so, perhaps it's simply because I don't find it annoying that it doesn't stick out).
Anything for you, little bro!
Aww 🥹

Aragorn's Bane

Brain of badger cooked up new,
Goes so well in Eowyn's stew.
Cooked just right for your delight.
She has a full kettle
So prove your mettle.
Eat it now; you must be bold.
Delay much longer and it'll get cold.

Wait, there was a cast joke about that?

This scene always bothered me -- I mean, Eowyn was a lady of Rohan. She would have grown up learning how to be a "proper woman" and would most likely be an excellent cook, or at least a decent one. And honestly, anyone with a pinch of common sense/working tastebuds wouldn't make a soup this bad and then serve it to your crush. So if this scene was a joke, it'll make a lot more sense 😂

It's a tiresome trope/cliché on two matters
1) Eowyn would be called a "tomboy" in the real world. The descriptor came about in Victorian times IIRC, might have been a little earlier.
Tomboys are supposed to not know about "girl stuff", cooking well ( or at all) being one of them.
2) Eowyn is high-born, of the aristocracy. High born people are, again in modern times, considered at best ignorant and at worst inept at doing things that less high born people (e.g. the, non rich, non celebrities, non sports stars) do everyday, such as cooking for oneself.

Yes it was. That is why it only made its appearance in the EE.

I found this today...

Narrator (Morgan Freeman's voice): It was with this bite that Aragorn decided that Arwen was the girl for him.

I don’t know, this doesn’t sound so bad to me! 😂

I remember in the Persian dub, they had translated it to Ghaliye.(It's a fish stew.)
Now, I'm not sure if this could be referred to anything other than fish.
The meat look tender enough to be a seafood of some kind, though.
