First off, I wasn't sure where this exactly fit and by my powers of debatable deduction I decided here was probably the best location. If this is incorrect please feel free to move it where it belongs or remove it and let me know where I should be placing it! It's my first post and I don't want to start off on the wrong hobbit foot.
As I introduce my kids to the world of Middle Earth I've been looking at my books and preparing for the handing of them down to them. I had never actually owned a version of "The Hobbit" and then bought the version illustrated by Jemima Catlin with the general idea that this was being bought for them. It's on my shelf but ultimately I got it to read it to them and for them to see the fun illustrations.
So, I've already been thinking about even my "The Silmarillion" and "The Lord of the Rings" leaving my shelf and being theirs. So I've been debating, not set yet, on getting my own new collection. I don't keep many physical books (I do ebooks, audio books, or library loans) but these are some that I always want a physical copy of and have been thinking I should splurge a little bit. Specifically I'm look for "The Silmarillion," "The Hobbit," and "The Lord of the Rings" but I'm always welcome to collections that have even more.
What are everyone's favorite editions/collections of these? Ideally, I would love "complete" editions; meaning that all of the books are by the same publisher/editor/in the same style. I've seen the "Illustrated by the Author" editions and they are definitely top runners right now. I'm OCD so I like uniformity which my currently collection does not have, haha.
