    Gil-Galad in the movie LOTR

Tolkien has stated Gil-galad's hair colour: "Base √ÑAL ‘shine, glitter’, always with reference to reflected radiance from a bright surface. As in the name Gil-galad ‘star of radiance’ given to Finwain, last High-king of the Eldar, because of the radiance of his silver hair, armour, and shield...

    Are half-elves mortal or immortal?

"Immortal were the Elves, and their wisdom waxed and grew from age to age, and no sickness or pestilence brought them death. But they could be slain with weapons in those days, even by mortal Men, and some waned and wasted with sorrow till they faded from the earth. Slain or fading their spirits...

    Works not intended for publishing

"In 1967 Tolkien named Christpher as his literary executor and co-author of 'The Silmarillion', thereby acknowledging that he was unlikely to complete the work and giving his son the authority to finish and publish it." The Great Tales Never End "After asking that his personal effect be...

    Aragorn's son

Essentially correct (though, of course, Tolkien does not give a birth or death year for Eldarion in LotR, only in sources outside it). As with first edition, correct no birth year or death year is given in second edition LotR for Eldarion. The years given outside of LotR are more difficult as...

    Aragorn's son

This is mixing first and second edition LotR. When this note was written (in the context of first edition LotR), Aragorn died in 4A 100.

How did Tolkien simplify 🧝Elf aging in his works?

In the NoMe passage you are citing, the context is for first edition Lord of the Rings. In first edition LotR, Aragorn dies at 190 rather than 210, living until Fourth Age 100. Thus Eldarion, in that variant, was full-ripe at 100 and would rule for 25 years.

    The 🧝Elven Ageing Variants

I cannot find the EDIT button, and I want to edit my first post in which I have Concerning Galadriel and Celeborn tentatively dated to 1959. I am now inclined to date it to 1960, and place it immediately after 1 VI The Awaking of the Quendi, based on CT's statements in PoMe ("in any case...

The fate of Tuor and Idril

Yes. And noting dates, there is Letter 325, from 1971: "As for Frodo or other mortals, they could only dwell in Aman for a limited time – whether brief or long. The Valar had neither the power nor the right to confer ‘immortality’ upon them. Their sojourn was a ‘purgatory’, but one of peace and...

The fate of Tuor and Idril

"it must be assumed that no alteration of their fundamental kind could be effected by the Valar even in one case" The alteration of ""code"" is from Eru. The fate of Tuor and Idril

It is not rehousing. It is altering the fundamental nature, the fea, of the Incarnate. "it must be assumed that no alteration of their fundamental kind could be effected by the Valar even in one case" No, he does not: "But whether they could have ‘souls’ or ‘spirits’ seems a different...

The fate of Tuor and Idril

In the story "it is supposed’ (not stated)". Outside the story Tolkien explains what he means/intends: "the cases of Lúthien (and Túor) and the position of their descendants was a direct act of God." Mathew Bailey provided: The letter continues: "But whether they could have ‘souls’ or...
