Question:
Have you heard before that Tolkien may have used some phrases, imagery, or themes from Psalm 23 particularly in the chapter “The Steward and the King”?
Is there anything to see here, or is it a nothing burger?
I know it's not much, but today a line of text in the chapter, “The Steward...
All TTF Members - now's your chance, and your time.
As I reformat and finalize my essay Of The Ents and The Trees, I'm accumulating my materials on The Contributions Of The Eagles.
I've already gathered many materials, and researching here there's some excellent stuff that's gone before -...
Hi,
I was just looking again at the movies and I'm still in doubt about something.
After the destruction of the ring, three eagles comes to pick Sam and Frodo.
Can we suppose that the third one was for Smeagol?
(Sorry if already asked, but I didn't find the answer).
Thanks

Hi there.
Please forgive me if I am mistaken in anything I say but this is how I remember it.
In the chapter "of aule and yavanna" dwarves are made by aule and then allowed to come to life (only when the elves do) but then also yavanna is allowed the Ents, but she doesn't literally create them...
Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
setting: after the Council of Elrond, the hobbits hold a council of their own in Bilbo's room. It's anyone's guess what all they discussed…

The same reason God has not reached down and ridded the world at war of all its weapons.
What if someone does not believe in God? Fine, but there is one in Middle-earth.
I wonder if there is a connection between athiesm and the view that the failure of the eagles to do all the work is a...
Elves - Orcs
Men - Black Numenoreans, Easterlings, Southrons
Ents - Trolls
Eagles - Winged Steeds of the Nazgul?
It was an idea that kinda just popped in my head, anyone care to discuss...
I think we're all familiar with this Problem - that the Eagles could have just carried Frodo into Mordor and Frodo could have dropped the Ring into the Crack of Doom. The full argument is presented here (I suggest that you read this article before coming up with arguments)...
Part of me was always wondering about the eagles taking out the nazgul in RoTK. Would such creatures really have had a chance against the evil nastiness of the nazgul mounts?
Well...The answer is a definite yes after the presentation I saw.
We had a wildlife preservation team come in to...
Here's another science-y article related (somehow) to Tolkien's Middle-earth:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4138147.stm
It should be noted that the eagles described here 'only' weigh 10-14 kg (~20 lbs), and 'only' have a 3 meter wingspan, and so aren't quite as big as...
OK!
This just goes to show the awful way my mind thinks at night, but for some reason, I was reading over old thread titles in the Lord of the Rings section when I saw a thread "The Eagles Have Come to War." It was started by a member named, of all things, smoke monkey.
My mind put the Eagle...
I know the Eagles are not partial to any one race, but help out where they can. However, the following lines perplex me a bit:
So, do the Eagles not like Dwarves for some reason? Or am I just reading too much into it?
Now this is something that has always bugged me about the end of ROTK. I have noticed in many different forums that when it is suggested, or asked rather, why the fellowship did not just hop on the eagles and fly over Mt Doom and just drop the ring in the cracks? Many people always argue that...
I'm wondering how Peter Jackson will get away with sending in the Eagles during the Battle at the Black Gates. When Gwaihir rescued Gandalf, there was no dialog between the two, and in Two Towers PJ did not show Gwaihir carrying Gandalf to Lothlorien. I'm afraid people will think this is just...
Are Eagles immortal? I think this is possible, because Thorondor seems to have been alive for a while. However, this doesn't mean he's immortal, and there is no record of him dying in battle. Still, Gwyahir was alive for hundreds of years and had shown no indication of dying at the end of te...
