This has been bugging me for a while (I have the weirdest questions sometimes). I know Elves are very tough and resilient, but do we know whether they would actually recover from injury faster than humans would? Say they break a bone. Are they going to heal in a couple of weeks rather than...
We're there any elves who served Sauron or Morgoth and were still elves, not orc-creatures or something? Also, could an elf turn "dark" for a while, repent of their deeds, and then be forgiven and still go into the West? This has been on my mind for a while.
This is something that I couldn't really figure out properly. It is stated that if they stay in Middle-Earth for too long, the elves' bodies start to get physically weakened and degraded until they become like wraiths due to the marring of Arda caused by Morgoth. But their bodies will stay...
Sorry I am bored and when I am bored my mind wanders around.
I was thinking about the 3 kindreds of elves:
1) The Vanyar, closer to the Valar, love poetry, music, more spiritual, and blonde hair (this is important actually).
2) The Noldor, the deep elves, like crafts, knowledge.
3) The Teleri...
I always thought about the burden of immortality, what do you do with your time?
In the case of elves, at least they don't (mostly) have the problem of losing their loved ones, but still, tens of thousands of years is a lot of time to fill in. How don't they get bored?
I know that elves would...
I mean of course the spirit, not fear as scared :).
I was reading one of NOME essays about a conversation between Manwe and Iluvatar, where Manwe asks if the Valar have the authority and the capability to re-embody elves's fear.
in fact, it starts with Manwe asking about re-embodiment because...
I was reading a bit about elves in the wiki. And I think there are some inaccuracies, but I don't know how to edit or suggest editions.
I haven't read it in deep but one detail called my attention. It says that after having children, elves are not interested in sex anymore.
To my knowledge...
I am not sure where to put this thread, it's mostly (but not exclusively) related to the Silmarillion. or maybe the Peoples of Middle Earth. Let me know if there is a better place.
The topic is how is elves's life in Aman.
We know elves are sort of immortal, it's a tricky concept in Tolkien's...
Who were the most powerful elves in the Legendarium?
There are many different ways an elf can be consider powerful. Some elves will fit in more than one category.
Leadership: that is the ability to have others follow you, do your biddings.
Feanor
Fingolfin
Fingon
Maedhros
Finrod
Gil Galad...
What's your belief?
Here are some questions as brainstorm ideas:
1. How does Eru Ilúvatar’s granting of free will to the Elves and other beings play into his decision to allow Morgoth to torment them? Is it an inevitable consequence of free will, or a test of faith?
2. Did Eru Ilúvatar have...
Gil Galad died during the sige of Barad-Dur. Isildur himself recorded his death. An yet part of the song that Sam sings near Amon Hen makes it seem as if his fate is unknown.
"But long ago he rode away
And where he dwelleth none can say
Far into darkness fell his star
In Mordor where the shadows...
Per invitation, I am posting a Middle-earth fanfic here I have been thinking over for some time. My main character is an OC and I'll do my best to portray the characters well, both in-world characters and those I make up. Enjoy!
Prologue: Free Moments.
I don't remember how my story began...
Sauron, who once pretended to be a friend, and taught them Ring lore, had long since revealed himself to be an enemy. On the other hand, Numenor, once great Elf friends, had long been becoming increasingly anti-Elf and anti-Illuvatar, not to mention increasingly oppressive in their colonies and...
Lembas is of course a given :)
But I can't recall Elves engaging in agriculture, managing livestock, or cooking.
Since they live in the forest, maybe they were hunting game? 🤔
Hi all! After reading LotR for about the 4th time, I finally am making it through The Silmarillion! Boy is it dense, and I'm frustratingly unclear as to certain questions and timeline points, so I decided to use Tolkien gateway and "cheat" as I read the book, getting answers the book doesn't...
I'm rereading the Fellowship of the Ring: The Council of Elrond, and they are wondering about giving the Ring to Tom Bombadil. Elrond says,
Gandalf seems to know him better, as does Glorfindel, and they can both say with confidence that Tom Bombadil would be the wrong person to have the ring...
According to what I read somewhere, after the elves were heavily defeated in Dagor Bragollach, some Noldor and Sindar elves who escaped from the war came to the gondolin and settled in it. Even among these elves were Glorfindel and Ecthelion. Is this article true? Is there any truth to it?
The question is quite clear. Who do you think is the elf who has fought the most wars and also seen the most place among all the first age elves? I think this elf is Celegorm. Because he noticeably has more battles and more travels than other characters.
his wars;
