elves

I came across these stories about elves in Iceland this weekend: "Contractors drilling for water in north Iceland have finally made contact with the hidden people to ask permission to drill after repeated unexplained malfunction in their drilling gear. The folklore retained to the so called...

When I add cirdan to the list of nirnaeth arnoediad commanders on the tolkiengateway site, it is removed. As a reason, they say that there are no reference sources from the books. Is there any book source or official written source that shows that the falathrim elves you know existed in the...

In the Nature of Middle-Earth, Tolkien laid out a complex system of Elven aging. According to this, Elves of Valinor aged 1 year per 144 solar year. But in Morgoth's Ring Elves are considered fully grown by 100. While I prefer the latter (it makes my stories easier) which was the more final...

From Years of the Trees to the Third Age it seems like the Elves lived in extensive city-states. Does anyone know if Tolkien ever said whether these were just capitols and smaller cities and towns existed? We know Eöl lived with a household in Nan Elmoth and that's about it. Everyone else...

Hello, I was wondering what "I love you" in the Elvish language means, furthermore, I wanted to know more about love in the elven culture. How do they love, etc? Also, are there books about that topic? Lastly, I wanted to ask if anyone knows if there is a phrase, word, or name you call...

Click here for the video version of this post. If anybody were to ask me what my favorite world mythology is, it would be Celtic mythology. What I find most fascinating is how much the lore has changed and been corrupted over time. When talking about Irish folklore, you’d be forgiven if your...

Hiya! So I just finished Lord of the Rings for the 3rd time (twice reading, once listening to audiobooks) and am finally starting The Silmarillion. It occurs to me I may have come across an error Tolkien made, or maybe not. You guys can help me with it, I'm sure. First off, The Hobbit and The...

The question is clear. Was turin turambar better fighter than the best-fighting high elves of the first age, especially when he lived in the nargothrond and brethil? I think he is one of the top 3 warriors of the first age. Because he killed glaurung, the father of dragons. I think glaurung is...

My 11-year-old so has read The Hobbit and has recently started FOTR and the questions are rolling in. He loves the military aspects of Middle-earth and wanted to know who would win in a war the elves under Thraduril, or Elrond. He had clearly put a lot of thought into the question and he listed...

I think would be an elf the character who fought in the most battles for they were immortal throughout middle earth history.I guess there is no elf who has seen more battles than the elves on the list. Who do you think is the most participated battles elf in the history of middle earth?

many people on this forum and on quora argue that fingolfin and many other elves can be defeat turin. So why do they think so? Why is it ignored that Turin kills Morgoth? Okay, Turin may not have killed Morgoth alone. But it doesn't say that he killed Morgoth with help or with someone else. It...

An official on the tolkiengateway site told me that the falas elves and cirdan's participation in the nirnaeth arnoediad were subsequently removed from the silmarillion and canon. Is that true? what are you thinking? Did the falas elves and cirdan nirnaeth arnoediad also fight?

Here is a "family tree". Unfortunately it does not look good in Dark Mode (which I use myself!). You might find it useful when picking through Book 5.

So what are we thinking happens to an Elf if they'd been enslaved via one of the Three? Would they be ringwraiths just like Men? Would they be something magnitudes greater? We know the dwarves resisted direct domination and could only be turned into greedy, grasping monsters. The Elves have...

In the Fellowship of the Ring Elrond has a saying: "Had I a host of Elves in armour of the Elder Days, it would avail little, save to arouse the power of Mordor." what does this mean? Does he emphasize that Mordor is more powerful than the high elves of the first age?

Yes, as title, were elves the market of pipe-weeds? The elves seemed to be the only "no-smoking" race, correct me if there're any other source.

Why Did Eru Give Men The Gift of death And Not To The Elves too?

Do you think Men, Elves, and Dwarves had Canine companions, and if so, did they have different breeds for different purposes? CL

Why Could Elves Of The First Age Of Middle Earth Fight And Kill Balrogs And Elves Of The Third Age like Legolas Could Not?

Hello 👋 Everyone. Hope you all are doing well. My question is that what did the Elves who were under the tutelage of Varda learned? Did they learned how to capture light? And was Galadriel when she was in Aman, was she under the tutelage of Varda or was she only under the tutelage of Yavanna...
