When the trees were wounded, Yavanna said that she could only heal them with the light contained in the silmarils.
Feanor refused but that seemed inconsequential since Morgoth had taken them anyway.
But was it?
When the smaller host of the Noldor, led by Feanor and his sons landed in Middle...
Idk if I'll use this for other drawings. But for now, Celebrimbor, Curufin (left), and Fëanor (right) in the shadow of Sauron's plots.
"You were never alone, littlest one. Not in life. Not in death."
The idea behind this was Celebrimbor creating the three rings, but midway through, starting...
I believe that the two did battle but that Feanor was slain. However, given that, later on, one of his kids at least maimed Morgoth, I don't suppose that it was beyond the realm of possibility that Feanor had NO hope of winning.
Anyway, suppose that he HAD won and had taken back the Simirals...
This is an interesting article examining Fëanor's speech in Tirion after the death of the Trees, and the Oath he took there. It doesn't only look at the published Silmarillion, but other writings by Tolkien where Fëanor's story is told...

Curufin and Fëanor
Fëanor talking to a 'six' year old Curufin (stage of development rather than actual age in years). The scene is from a story I'm writing, which will probably take a while, since my imagination thinks in pictures (a bit like a silent film, mostly events, interactions, action...
Eight children Fëanáro Curufinwë had: seven sons, and one daughter. All were like him in fiery fierceness of spirit, yet not all shared his vengeful wrath, or his anger which was so easily provoked. All deeply loved their father and mother, yet some would be torn between obedience and...
First off, I know Tolkien's powers and gifts of different beings are like Dragonball Z power levels. They seem to mostly be spiritual, and have a lot of nuance to their specifics. Secondly, Feanor obviously doesn't rank with any of the Valar. There does seem to be some quite wide divergence...
The Silmarillion, "Of The Flight of The Noldor":
"Then Feanor swore a terrible oath. His seven sons leapt straightway to his side and took the selfsame vow together, and red as blood shone their drawn swords in the glare of the torches. They swore an oath which none shall break, and none...
I get that it can have some pretty drastic consequences, like what happened to the Oath Breakers in Gondor, but still, even THAT would, I suppose, have been a better fate than what befell the sons themselves, not to mention their people.
I'm also curious why, unless I am misremembering the...
Just wondering how people perceive Feanor?
Do you feel he is a villain or anti-hero?
Personally I see him as a villain, he has done some pretty bad stuff, maybe not on the scale of Morgoth, but there are a few similarities.
Celebrimbor or Fëanor? The two greatest Smith's save Aulë in Tolkien's world. But who is better? The creator of the silmarils Vs the man who wrought the rings of power. I cannot say. Who is mightiest in their work, not their power in battle.
So a thing that I never have been able to wrap my head around. When Feanor and the Noldors chased Morgoth to Beleriand, and after they sluaghtered the Teleri's and took their ships.
Feanor ordered his men to burn every ship so Fingolfin and the rest of the Noldors couldnt use them.
I just dont...
I was in a thread about Fingolfin vs Feanor and the vibe was.... off-putting. Though perhaps it was about some other Feanor I'm unaware of.
Just a reminder: "For Feanor was made the mightiest in all parts of body and mind: in valour, in endurance, in beauty, in understanding, in skill, in...
Mine would probably be Maedhros for his various attributes (calm diplomacy and excellent sword-fighting skills, and his beautiful red hair!).
I also love his ending out of all of the seven sons - descending of his own will into a fiery chasm of the Earth due to his unbearable pain, whilst...
So in the First Kinslaying Galadriel fought against Feanor. In Shibbileth it is said now she desired to follow him with her anger to whatever lands he might come and to thwart him in all ways that she could.
When did she get that motive? Was it after the Kinslaying or after the burning of the...
Manwe: "even as Eru spoke to us, shall beauty not before conceived be brought into Ea, and evil yet be good to have been"
I can only parse this last bit as "and evil yet good to have been" - am I missing a trick? (the "be" bit)
