helm's deep

"You don't have to put a sword in her hands to make her strong" I was watching the Behind the Scenes appendices part three for the Two Towers movies when I came across this part ( - Just watch the video clip). I almost cried with joy! For one, it would have been bad for this situation/story...

There is an excellent diagrammatic map (plus commentary) of Helm's Deep in Fonstad's Atlas of Tolkien's Middle Earth which corresponds closely to Alan Lee's beautiful illustration below. We have now moved from the level of companies to that of armies. Rohan's mounted force have ridden out to...

I understand this is highly subjective but i'd like your take, personally I like the battle of Helms Deep more, despite it arguably being a less important battle in the grand scheme of things, cinematography wise i'd say it's better in every way. Some of my reasons: More practical effects, cgi...

The Battle of Helm's Deep has to be one of the greatest scenes I have ever seen in cinema. For fun, I am curious as to how you would strategically plan out this battle if you were in charge. Some questions below to get the conversation going. - What would you do differently? - How would you...

Courtesy, civility, & fair-play seem to come up quite a bit in LoTR. A few of my favourites: 1. Galadriel to Gimli (in Lorien) : "it is said that the skill of the Dwarves is in their hands rather than in their tongues, yet that is not true of Gimli. For none have ever made to me a request so...

Logically, it wasn't really much needed. Saruman was already defeated by the Ents. The people could have just evacuated instead of losing soldiers at Helms Deep. More to the point, if they'd retreated from Rohan toward Gondor, Saruman, assuming that the Ents didn't attack him, would have...

I think this is where this belongs but found this on Imgur today and thought it was VERY cool! http://imgur.com/gallery/oVNF2

I have no idea which forum this belongs in, so I chose this one. Words escape me. Enjoy

We create a forum and then neglect it. I'm phoning DHS for this mishap! It's 11:49; System of a Down is blaring from my speakers, and I'm dying for a debate! Theoden thought it best to move his people from Edoras and the Golden Hall to Helms Deep. Grima, foresaw this, thus...

This has ended..

I was halfway through the Fellowship of the Ring when it came out on film, and I therefore rushed my reading of the other books, so as not to be caught out again. Therefore, upon seeing TTT, I could not remember, Haldir coming to help at Helms Deep. So I re-read the series of books, (at a more...

As with many, I thought having the elves at Helm's Deep was pointless. All they accomplish is killing a bunch of elves off. It doesn't change the way anything goes, as most if not all of the elves that went were conveniently killed, making it so they wouldn't have to deal with having them in ROTK.

Two questions: 1. I don't have my books with me. In the movie, when Theoden is explaining how they will defend Helm's Deep, Gimli mentions that it's not just orcs showing up to the party, but Uruk Hai. Theoden says something like "I have fought many wars, I know how to defend my people."...

My son and I are starting to build a large model of Helm's Deep for his use in a board game. We want to make it as nearly like the one in the movie as possible. So far it's been a challenge to find enough pics to get the detail and to lay it out proportionally correct. If anyone can point me to...

Who were the elves that came to help at the battle in the movie again?? It's been awhile since I have seen it. I did like the movies version of the battle vs. the books....the book didn't make it feel like it was the whole night long, whereas the movie did... Also, the help that Gandolf the...

Well i was watching Helms deep yesterday and I noticed that a bunch of drunk hobbits could fight off the uruk-hai better then the elves. Arent elves skillful and awsome warriers? Why did peter jackson show them getting their butts kicked. Every scene at helms deep is the orcs slaughtering elves...

Does anyone know of a map of Helm's Deep (The movie one) on the internet. Thanks Morgaphry

I finally saw the EE of TTT, and all through the first disk was excited. It was good! The addiditions made it better! Remembering that PJ replaced a scene in the EE of FOTR (getting into Lorien) with a better version, I had high hopes that some of the big errors in the second half of the...

I am confused. does any one know what happens when the horn is blown? this is probably a very stupid question and the answer is probably right in front of me, but can anyone help me out on this. i never understood what happens. does i give them courage to fight?
