luthien

An animated tribute to Beren and Lúthien. Music is not by me.

Questions: Is the similarity between the words Leithian and Luthien meaningful and interesting, or is it merely coincidental and of no consequence? Did Tolkien have more than one meaning in mind for ‘Release from Bondage’? If yes, which meaning is the most important? Even if Tolkien only had...

Okay, so I'm on Substack and a Tolkien fan on there is doing something called Middle-Earth Madness to decide by popular vote who the best LOTR character is. It's totally subjective and all in good fun BUT...characters are facing off from the Silm, LOTR, War of the Rohirrim, and ROP. Right now...

I made a kid's version of Beren and Luthien for my younger sister, and I thought you might find it useful if you have children or young siblings. It's basically just an abridged version of Beren and Luthien, with some of the iffy parts (such as the crows feasting on Barahir's body) removed or...

I recently downloaded this version of the Lay of Lathien from the internet, as I hope to memorise it eventually. However, I am unsure if this is a correct version of the Lay, as some parts seem substituted from Tolkien's other works. One passage in particular sparks doubt, page 3: which is...

Beside the magical prowess of her daughter Lúthien, is there any mention of anyone in her line showing powers alike to her?

I have never read Romeo and Juliet before and know Beren and Lúthien briefly...I ask this of those who are familiar with both ...do these couples have anything in common beside their love being forbidden?

Chapter 22, "Of the Ruin of Doriath" does state that the Lord of Nogrod "laid his curse upon all the treasure" before he died, and so Beren threw all of it into the River Ascar save for the Nauglamir. A few things to wonder or theorize about: What exactly was the curse, and what did it...

Here is a drawing I just did in pencil: Enjoy!

We all know about the rivalry between cats and dogs, but let's put that into a middle earth sense and imagine Huan, captain of the dogs vs Telvido, lord of the cats. This battle happens in beren and Luthien but I think other outcomes could arise if you think for long e I am a dog person so for...

Thus, apart from her great masterpiece of fainting Melkor and all the garrisons of Angband regardless of it's sneak tactic, could luthien sing in public military operation and make the game over? Or if the targets stuffed their ears in the first places, then luthien's song would suck, would it?

I dont have my copy of the Silmarillion handy, does anyone have a description of Mogoth and how he appeared on his throne? also his crown?

OK - I'm slacking... I don't have either of these yet, and haven't read them. But I'll probably put them on a suggestion list for Christmas gifts. Around here - there's already a forum for "Children of Hurin" - and to me, these books seem most in the same class. Should each get its own forum...

Hi new member here. I have a question. Does anyone know the last verse of the Song of Beren and Luthien in its original writings, perhaps in Tengwar, Quenya or Sindarin? Or if there isn't does anyone can translate the last verse only into correct elvish writings? I need it to make a drawings...

Hello, everyone. I just joined this forum and I'd love to get your opinions on something. I just finished reading the Silmarillion for the second time, but the first time was ages ago, and I really didn't remember much of the details, which was awesome in a way because it was all new all over...

Do you think theres such a possibilities? Whats your input in this matter if it comes to pass?

Look at it and tell me your opinion!

Another 'what if' to ponder.... Beren attempted to take all three Silmarils from Morgoth's crown, but his knife broke, and Morgoth stirred in his slumber. So Beren and Luthien fled, leaving the other two behind. But what if they had taken all three?

When Luthien moved Mandos to pity Manwe took council with Iluvatar and she was presented with a choice. I wonder why she was given the option of dwelling in Valinor and forgetting her sorrows. (Though how they could promise she would forget the sorrow is beyond me.) Surely she would not choose...
