Why did the One Ring get heavier as it approached 🌋Mordor?

Did the Ring in some way sense that Frodo and Sam intended to destroy it in Mt. Doom? While approaching Mordor it was getting nearer to Sauron. That would be a reason for the Ring getting lighter not heavier, I would think. How intelligent was the Ring?

Could Aragorn have taken the Ring to 🌋Mordor?

Aragorn could have claimed the Ring, had he wanted to, as he was Isildur's heir. If he had been made Ringbearer, do you think he would have been able to take the Ring to Mordor like Frodo (or better) or would he succumb to it like Boromir? Aragorn was certainly mightier than Frodo, but Gandalf...

Open, in the name of 🌋Mordor!

I was struck by this demand of a Black Rider seeking to gain entrance into the hobbit house at Crickhollow where Frodo et al had stayed overnight. There's no attempt at deception e.g. "I have a special delivery for you that needs signing for" (the usual postman is off sick). Maybe the idea is...

    A Particular Fauna of 🌋Mordor

Title of the thread might, for a moment, confuse folks. So, anyone care to comment on Tolkien and his views of felis catus?... His depiction of them, references to them, etc. And what do any cat-lovers out there think about this?

    Lesser creatures of 🌋Mordor?

''For the orcs and lesser creatures of Mordor that had dwelt there had been destroyed in battle.'' What are the lesser creatures?

Led Zeppelin and References to the Lord of the Rings

Many people do not realize that one of the best and most famous rock bands ever, Led Zeppelin, wrote many songs directly referring to or cleverly hinting about LOTR material. This would make sense, due to the fact that the band itself was British and into the mystical and fantasy. Just thought...

What happened to 🌋Mordor after 👁️Sauron fell?

Would his ill effects still linger enough that nothing decent could grow or that nobody would dare go near it (kind of like how people didn't want to go near the bones of Smaug in the Long Lake even though he was long dead.)? Could nice things be built there, could it be farmed? Or would it...

Could Frodo's journey to 🌋Mordor weaken the Ring's power over him?

Gandalf does say that having it with the intention of taking it to destroy it would result in the Ring's evil being very slow working. I know that the Ring was already affecting Frodo in Bag End, even without really, presumably, looking at it that much, and never using it at all, when Gandalf...

Did Frodo, of his own free will, agree to take the ring to 🌋Mordor?

Did Frodo, of his own free will, agree to take the Ring to Mordor? Or, was he a piece on a chess board being moved by one of the Valar? Note Tolkien's wording: "...some other will was using his small voice." The Council of Elrond: Frodo glanced at all the faces, but they were not turned to...

Other Medium 2022 🌋Mordor Halloween Display

I added a bunch of new props this year. Hoping to add a few more next year; a palantir, Saruman's palantir stand, a dragon projection, an orc, some kind of Mordor appropriate fence and possibly a Balrog. As of right now I've got Gollum, a nazgul, a nazgul horse, a wolf, two braziers, Shelob...

Is this Tolkien video on 🦅Eagles authentic or a fake?

Found it on YouTube. But Tolkien usually has a different voice than this, so unsure whether its the same one?

Elrond's words: Does 🌋Mordor surpass First Age 🧝Elves?

In the Fellowship of the Ring Elrond has a saying: "Had I a host of Elves in armour of the Elder Days, it would avail little, save to arouse the power of Mordor." what does this mean? Does he emphasize that Mordor is more powerful than the high elves of the first age?

The journey to 🌋Mordor is FAR!!!

Do any of you use the app "Walk to Mordor"? It is a simple milage tracker that relates how far you've hiked with where in Frodo's journey you would be. I am a fairly avid hiker, and while I knew when I read the books that quest was long, this app really cements how FAR the ring-bearer had to...

Narsil "The slaves of Mordor shall flee from me."

Looking for more learned loremasters to help me out here. I am reading Middle-earth from Script to Screen and in a section is says that Aragorn's reforged sword "The slaves of Mordor shall flee from me." Now this book does not distinquish from movie to book so I want to check. Was this written...

    Could Hyarmendacil have defeated 👁️Sauron?

In other words, could Gondor c. 1050 have defeated Mordor c. 3019? Obviously, Gondor at the end of the third age was able to defeat Sauron's forces on the Pelennor Fields. I'm talking about an actual campaign. We know Gondor went into prolonged decline for the latter half of the third age. But...

    🍲Food in 🌋Mordor

I've been wondering about what the armies in Mordor did for food. The Encyclopaedia of Arda (a good source?) says that Nurn around the Sea of Nurnen was more fertile than the Plateau of Gorgoroth and was worked by slaves (cf Sparta's helots?). These slaves were released in the fourth age...

    Military organization of 🌋Mordor

Another one I wrote. Link: https://warfantasy.wordpress.com/2023/07/03/military-organization-of-mordor/ The gist is basically that Mordor is organized in a manner much more similar to modern armies, which contrasts Gondor's more medieval structure (though Gondor's military is actually based on...

Why wasn't Barad Dur / 🌋Mordor watched more closely in the Third Age

Hi all! New user here with a question that I was hoping you all could help answer. I was wondering why after the fall of Sauron in the second age that Barad Dur / Mordor didn't have a closer watch to prevent it from being taken over again. Barad Dur could not be completely destroyed because...

    Alternative routes to 🌋Mordor

The journey from Rivendell to Mordor is framed as via Moria, the pass of Caradhras or the Gap of Rohan. They each have their own dangers (compare Homer's Odyssey!) But why not go by boat down the Greyflood and by sea to one of the coastal settlements of Gondor. Objection: dependence on Gondor...
