numenor

In That Hideuous Strength by C.S. Lewis, something called Numinor is frequently mentioned, usually alongside Atlantis and Merlin. Is this some kind of a reference to Tolkien's Númenor? In That Hideous Strength, it seems to be some sort of ancient sunken ciy, like Atlantis. Seeing as Tolkien and...

For a project: is there anything specifically known about the roles of Númenórean women during the island's existence? I know many of the Númenóreans were sailing masters and ship-builders, masters of many crafts including forging and various arts and sciences, and the technology of Númenor...

There do seem to be some similarities: 1.) Great Empires, at first good but growing twist and turning into cruel conquerors 2.) Island Empires. 3.) Final fate is that they sank beneath the waves. 4.) More ancient empire/kingdom than "modern" older kingdoms

Saw an article about this the other day - googled and found this one. https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/elves-or-numenor-rings-of-power-s2-leak-reveals-show-may-be-at-a-crossroads/ar-AA1fQWg2 I don't see it in this article - but the first one I saw mentioned that Season 2 will end with a...

Does the following quote imply that if someone was of strong enough character they could take the ring, defeat Sauron and not become corrupted by the Ring? Later in the quote the Ring's lust is noted to be irresistible, do these sentences contradict each other? But to achieve this he had been...

Just got the paperback version of the Fall of Numenor. Does anyone know if there's any contents differences to the hardback version, such as less illustrations.

Ok I know I'm not Tolkien but here is my possible theory as to why Sauron after drowning with the Island of Numenor was no longer able to appear fair/shapeshift again. As we know Sauron is an extremely powerful maia. And before the forging of the One ring he was able to take many forms, humanoid...

Just announced for October. https://www.tolkiensociety.org/2022/06/new-tolkien-book-the-fall-of-numenor-to-be-published/

We always talk about the first age and the third age. Let's talk about the second age a little bit. After all, we will see a lot of the second age in the series soon. Do you think Ar-Pharazon and his unprecedentedly large army of Numenor would defeat the Valar when they landed on Valinor?

As title, the Numenor played Sauron like a piece of cake by their superior military, then here came a problem, how did they they deal with the One Ring? Or the One Ring, in fact, all it got was nothing but bulletting noobs rivals, unless it had the power of mind-control, not revealed by the...

What's Sauron's next move after finishing the Numenor during the 2nd Age? As we already knew the reasons why he didn't use the Numenor to destroy the elves before the Valinor Expedition might get concluded into 2 options-underestimating Gil-Galad and the Faithful, or overestimating the cost to...

Why Is it That The People Of Numenor where Afraid Of Death? Did They Not Realise That After Men Died They Souls went elsewere? if yes then why did they still Fear Death?

The uruk olog-hais of the third age were stronger than the orcs and trolls of the first age. In the first age there were elves who slew the balrogs. But there are the rohan cavalry that can defeat mumakils 2-3 times the size of a balrog. Do you think the numenor and gondor people of the third...

I am Not trying To Offend Anyone in Terms Of Faith, But I always wondered Can Sauron In Numenor telling People To Worship Morgoth Be Compared To The Antichrist And His False Prophet In The Book Of Revelation? If Yes Why and How? If Not Why? And What Other Bible Themes Are There in The Works Of...

The civil wars between Faithful and King's Men were proved to be impossible, however, how about civil wars between the King's men? Yes, seriously. As we know Numenor begun to lost it's virtue after it's corruption since the reign of Ciryatan, patriotism, as an result, though not directly...

The condition is both side will fight with only bare hands, with every methods they can use, including kicking private parts. No rules, keep fighting till one of them drop. P.S. Hammer of Wrath was described to have the best morale, thus their's melee combat ability might be the best among all...

I setting is Numenor Empire during the reign of Ar-Pharazon, while Morgoth is at the time when he destroyed Gondolin. Just discuss any possible outcomes and your analysis^^ All constructive all welcomed to left.^^

I think you all have known the latter politic development of the Numenor empire, it determines the latter lore of the whole JRRT's 3rd age storyline. Yet 1 thing JRRT left a huge space for us to imagine-civil war. JRRT has mentioned that when Elendil arrived at ME after the Downfall, a fully...

A little thought exercise I had: https://warfantasy.wordpress.com/2023/11/09/how-powerful-was-ar-pharazons-numenor/

While it might have been nice to get Numenor out of the way, his scheme to trick the Numenoreans into attacking Valinor led to the sinking of Numenor, which was a great defeat for him, as his form got destroyed (maybe he could have survived the destruction of the One Ring (albeit as a weak...
