We had an idea to create a badge that would be given to those who display immense Tolkien knowledge. This would be similar to the Elanor badge where users can be nominated to the mods and then we would award the badge out to the recipients.

We'd like to keep it Tolkien-themed so I would like to get your suggestions. We already have a few for other TTF submissions that obviously we don't want to duplicate:

Lore Master & Tolkien Scholar - For Wiki contributions
Tolkienologist - for users who've made at least 1000 posts

So drop your suggestions here and then we'll make a poll to vote on the one we like the best. Feel free to also include an image if you have an idea of how the badge should look.

Thanks!
EA

Mine: Lambengolmor aka Lore Masters.
Though Fëanor after the days of his first youth took no more active part in linguistic lore and enquiry, he is credited by tradition with the foundation of a school of Lambengolmor or 'Loremasters of Tongues' to carry on this work. This continued in existence among the Ñoldor, even through the rigours and disasters of the Flight from Aman and the Wars in Beleriand, and it survived indeed to return to Eressëa. [HoME-XI/396]

I think we should have a badge for both our linguistic loremasters and for our general loremasters. People have often come to the forum seeking linguistic help, and there are a specialized few here who are well-learned in the workings of Quenya and Sindarin, the different forms of Tengwar, their etymologies, and even some of the other languages it seems. It's a valuable and unique set of knowledge to have!

I like EA's sample of what the badge could look like for the Lambengolmor. And I think Ingolmor, or being an Ingolmo, is also a good name for the general loremasters of all things Tolkien.

Yes! I agree.

Lambengolmor, now THAT is a title with some real scholarly weight to it.

If we bestow Lambengolmor upon our finest forum "walking encyclopedias" we must insist on absolute fidelity to ancient tradition. That means every badge recipient is legally bound to spend forty five minutes debating the exact phonetic shift of a single Primitive Quendian vowel before they are permitted to weigh in on the great eternal question of whether the Balrog possessed physical wings or merely a metaphorical shadow resembling wings. (We all know the correct answer, of course).

Following the true example of Feanor during his founding days, awarding this badge grants the member the sacred right to hoard their private lore notebooks out of pure unbridled spite toward the moderation staff whenever an unruly debate gets locked.

I say we forge the badge at once. Just prepare yourselves for the recipient to deliver an acceptance speech entirely in third draft Tengwar, accompanied by a six page addendum written in pig-latin on why the rest of the forum has been pronouncing Earendil with shameful Gondorian carelessness.

Adieu, adieu, adieu!
