Its actually not a bad written psychological novel. It even works for religious morality debates around it.

Because the main focus is the idea around "Eros and Thanathos". Or to translate in English "Love and death". In the context of the novel or story. It bases the idea that, fantasies or dreams, can be a reality. So when one conceals them, it can also unleash this anxiety around love and death. Things you wish you didnt think or feel. Now the way the story ends is, the guy confesses everything. And now they feel more aware around it.

And it ends with a bittersweet ending of their daughter laughing the next morning

You may have heard of the movie "Eyes Wide Shut 1999" film. Well this is the novel its based on.

I think honestly, this is not all that bad. The only difference in movie is, some Jewish character isnt referenced like "Nightingale" Because... well i guess having a guy who knows a secret underground club, dance ball that looks too much like something "Jeffrey Epstein or P.Diddy" would organize, likely rubbed Kubrick the wrong way. With the whole conspiracy of secret elites and such. Even though the author himself was Jewish. Interms of it being a Austrian novel.

Also, i guess its why "Masks" is used in this story. 'cause whether one playfully likes them or uses them to hide. Thats likely why its a thing in this story too.

But it is somewhat depressing, so its not something i go back to thinking YEAAAAH! But it is good psychoanalysis type of novel. I think its good!

One could also argue that loyalty and hobbies is best thing to focus on in the end. Or that is usually my motto.
