How did the Dark Lord prevent defeat from 🧌orcs's rout

Yeah, orcs were always the greatest free people war heroes as their route always led to the Free People's victory as we all knew that when a route took places in armed forces's tactical ranks during combat, then good luck, yet there're several cases that the Dark Lord did save the day from orcs rout, such as the battle of Unummbered tears, so...how did the Dark Lord did so? Freindly fire without distiction was the most possibly rude but effective option, such as the possible Dragon's fire in the Unumbered Tears killing all the fleeing orcs thus they wouldn't mess the deployment and so on.
All direct sources and indirect sources from JRRT were all welcome to post.
