just curious?

i have a few questions. first of all what is in Hollin? the fellowship passes by it or in it(cant remember).why dosent any body live there? secondly, why didn't the steward of the city send for the people of laketown?? i mean it could help to have more people defending minas tirith. i know that the men of laketown and the dwarves had their own battle against the orcs of mordor but i think it their troubles started later than that of gondor. lastly, was laketown and harad part of gondor in its glory years???? so many question so little time.

thanks in advance
Dan:)

The men of Laketown were a totally different country. It is also doubtful that they would care to abandon their own homes and people, even if they could. To come to Gondor's aid they would either have to abandon their families or take them with them. To abandon them would've been dishonorable and disasterous, and I doubt they were able to move them safely.

It would not have come to mind to evacuate to another realm.

Hollin is another name for Eregion, the land in Eriador, between the rivers Glanduin and Bruinen. It was settled in the SecondAge by the Gwaith-i-Mírdain, the peoples of the noldorian Jewel-smiths. The chief city was Ost-in-Edhil. Eregion was laid waste during the war between the Elves and Sauron (>SeA 1695) after the forging of the Rings__of__Power.

Laketown (Esgaroth) was more than 800 miles away from MinasTirith (as the crow flies ;)), and Dale was itself attacked by Sauron's forces (the Battle of Dale was Mar 15-17, ThA 3019, the siege of Gondor had begun Mar 13).

Dale and Rhovanion was counted among the Allies of Gondor, but never part of the Kingdom of Gondor (however, in the FourthAge the Kings of the Re-united Kingdom were also overlords of Dale and Erebor).

Parts of Harad were included in the Kingdom of Gondor (South Gondor and Umbar), other parts (the Haradwaith) were tributaries to Gondor.

I hope that answers your questions.

May I introduce you to some people? Lembas, meet "to" and "too"; "to" and "too" meet Lembas. . :D
No, but welcome to the forum. :)

Y'know Super_Dan (a welcome to you also), I think you'll find that everything we all-knowing personages here know derives from information from actual books produced by Tolkien (JRR or C).. The best way to find answers to Tolkien-related questions (short of asking us, of course) is to actually read them yourself, I find. :)
And when you have the chance, please read The Silmarillion, Tolkien's masterpiece.

thanks for the replies. i have read the lord of the rings twice but i'm on my third go around. i also have the "one ring" that i got for a birthday "its my precious" but it seems to be broken. i cant disappear or anything ;)! i have read the hobbit 2 times as well. i picked up a copy of the Silmarillion a couple of months back, but i found it a little dull and a tad confusing, i guess i just have to keep trying.

thanks again,
Dan

Now w8, what can u 2 2 2 people if they 2 that 2 u 2?

I sink I cood get use to nu englis... ;)

Your nu englis sounds a lot like me when I have a cold...

Maybe that's just because I was homeschooled...

Though I do have the worst misspelling of Tolkien names ratio on the board... as I'm sure Lant will point out.

Brother... can't go anywhere without being tortured by the guy with the Spell Check imbedded in his cranium....

'haps I shud git intu dis nu englis to.
