I tried just feeding in a quote from the text:

'...thunder and lightning in the mountains at night...The lightning splinters on the peaks, and rocks shiver, and great crashes split the air and go rolling and tumbling into every cave and hollow; and the darkness is filled with overwhelming noise and sudden light...across the valley the stone giants were out and hurling rocks at one another for a game...'

Here's another one generated directly from Tolkien's words:

'It was a winged creature: if bird, then greater than all other birds, and it was naked, and neither quill nor feather did it bear, and its vast pinions were as webs of hide between horned fingers; and it stank. A creature of an older world maybe it was, whose kind, lingering in forgotten mountains cold beneath the Moon, outstayed their day, and in hideous eyrie bred this last untimely brood, apt to evil.'

It's quite different from the winged fell beasts of my imagination but very creepy nonetheless.

Strange that AI can't do the simple task of copying the text accurately into the image.

It seems to find fingers equally challenging.

France 24 runs a short segment called "Truth or Fake", and has, as you might expect, been emphasizing fake AI material more recently. One aspect pointed out, when trying to spot fakes, is when people people use logos of legitimate sources, but done with AI, any text in the logo is often nonsensical.

Strange that AI can't do the simple task of copying the text accurately into the image.

I assume it's because it pulls its information from the relevant images containing text that it's been trained on. So it's kind of an average or approximation of 'what the text looks like'. It's taking your prompt as instructions on what it should search for, but it's not going to copy it.

I quite like the text it tried to do. It looks like some sort of bizarre mixture of Old English and Welsh.

For some reason this one makes me think: Barrow-wights' album cover.

Here's one of the AI's other interpretations of Tolkien's description. It added a crazy spiral ceiling and a warrior. And, this dragon can apparently pass through solid objects.
